Happened to my friend in my passenger seat about a year ago. Taking a rotary quickly and it popped up on one side then fell down. Still haven't gotten around to fixing it, lol.

Not myself, but I sure have fixed a lot of them over the years.

Usually the upper frame just breaks at the pivot or the pivot breaks off the lower, if it's not too busted up I have pulled off all the upholstery and TIG them or if they are shattered to shit, just replace the frame.

Granted I'm not doing this on a whole lot of e30s anymore. But I'm pretty sure the seat frames are still available.

Doing a lot of e36 and 46s now, some things just don't change much.

EDIT: Oh Sometimes the back just comes loose, 2 screws hold the brackets in place and the gremlins loosen them up every 10 years or so.

yeh, if it lifts up on one side and not the other, the screw came out, pull off the rear cover, there are two small phillips holding it on at the bottom of the back of the seat. then you will see two bars that hold the seat back to the seat bottom, there is one large phillips screw on each, one of those fell out. whole process to fix it should take no more than 5 min per seat.

                          Both mine have broken before.

Turns out it was just a bolt that holds the back of the seat on had came out. It was an easy fix both times.

Anybody ever have the lower frame break? I have one seat that on the outside is in very good condition, but the lower main frame rail is broken. It works, but it is a bit crooked.

It thought it was odd that the lower frame had broken like that.

Yeah, mine broke on both sides. Not hard to replace but a pain in the rear to take the cushion and upholstery off. I noticed it when I was leaning too much to the left and couldn't adjust.
