control arm broke and oil pan destroyed

I was driving my e30 when my driver side control arm broke in half and i was in the middle of turning i lost control and the car went into the curb breaking my oil pan. do you think if i fix it up will it start cuz the oil pump within the pan looked like it was hit also. so im getting a new pan and control arm and buy some oil. thanks leave me with some advice

when you get the old pan off, the oil pump is easy to pop out to inspect.

I recommend replacing the pump as well, as long as you didn't leave the engine running after the oil all leaked out it'll be fine.

On another note i have an oil pan i'm trying to sell for $125 and if you're interested i'll throw in an oil pump for free because of your shitty situation.

As per the bentley, you can turn the oil pump sprocket by hand with the pickup submerged to test it. I would replace it regardless, the guy above me is giving you a very good deal.

wow thats a pretty nasty catastrophic failure!

can you post a picture of the broken control arm? a zoom up of the fracture surface would really be nice. metal failure is my job, i can give some insight on the cause.

Was it an aftermarket control arm?

I'm curious as well, particularly if there's something I could look for to avoid this situation.
This def could have been a lot worse than just an oilpan.

Control arms don't just break in half all on their own! I have seen them severely bent and still not broken!

Thus the reason every PPI and track tech inspection includes inspecting the control arms.

dayuum. i believe the ball joint popping out and causing that... i saw it happen at an auto-x once, but broke in half from driving normally....idk. you need to inspect the pump when you take off the the damaged oil pan. i'd rather replace that $130 part now than later and have to drop the oil pan again.
