Broken Metal Tube for E-Brake Cable

    Hey everyone,

Ran into a pretty frustrating issue today on my 1991 325iX. The metal tube that guides the e-brake cable just broke off from the chassis.

I was trying to free a stuck metal ferrule on the cable (yellow arrow in the photo) that sits inside that tube. Instead of the ferrule coming loose, the entire tube snapped off. Now the tube just wiggles around, which means I can’t get enough leverage to free the ferrule—and I’m worried the whole thing is going to break completely if I mess with it any more. The red arrow in the photo shows where it separated from the chassis.

At this point it looks like the “proper” fix might involve dropping the exhaust, removing the driveshaft, pulling the rear subframe, and moving the brake line out of the way just to weld the tube back onto the chassis… which sounds like an absolute nightmare.

Before I start tearing half the rear end of the car apart, has anyone dealt with this before? Any tricks or alternative approaches that might avoid doing all of the above?

I also have the task of removing the stuck ferrule. Considering drilling it out but there's not much space in there to get a drill bit on there.

    Appreciate any advice.

how was it attached? the tubes have their own part number so they are likely replaceable. 41121916245
