    Mtec1 Spoiler Reproductions

Mods, I hope this thread is abiding by the rules. It is more of a build thread then a for sale thread as of now. If everything goes as hoped for then I'll move on to the FS forum.

    The Plan:
Reproduce e28 Mtec1 spoilers with both e28 and e30 mounting points.

The bases will be cast in a solid but flexible rubber compound and the inserts will be cast in a urethane plastic. I'm planning to retain all the aesthetics of the e28 spoiler (dimensions and grooves), while modifying where need be to flawlessly fit the e30 trunk - retaining stock mounting points (no more extra drilling).

On a side note: If all gos well, I could also offer these painted. I hand build models as part of my profession and have also worked auto body in the past... to give you piece of mind :).

Differences Between the e28 and e30 Mtec1 Spoilers:

E28 Mtec1 spoilers are a bit longer and deeper, have grooves in the lip, and different mounting points then the e30 Mtec's.

    e28 Mtec1 on e30:

    e30 Mtec1 Spoiler:

What I need from anyone who can help:

    - e28 Mtec1 spoiler
I originally was asking for one to just rent out for the mold process, but seeing as I will be modifying it, I will need one for keeps. If anyone would be willing to donate one for future payment of a replica it would be greatly appreciated. If the replicas do not work out I will reimburse you in cash or buy you a new one.

    - e28 Mtec1 dimensions
If anyone has one on hand and could shoot me the L x W x H quickly, I can start planning out cost.

    Most recent update:

I recently talked with the casting supplier and will be getting in some rubber compound samples to test densities and prepability (not a word).

More people seem to be interested in an e28 version, with modified fitment for their e30 and stock e30 mounting locations (you don't have to drill extra holes).

Plus, ideally they would also have the e28 mounting locations as well.

As I understand it, both are NLA.

Personally, I think the wider spoiler looks better.

odd, i always liked the e30 one, and they go for more... but if these are going to be really cheap, i might be down for it either way in the future

they go for more cuz they fit, I love the way the e28 ones look but you have to cut all new holes and the outermost fits into the trunk in a place where you can't really get a nut on it, so its hard to get it to fit tightly to the body.

I'll be keepin an eye on this Dave, I already have one e28 mtech and trunk drilled to match but i've got other e30s :)

Yeah, the e28 versions look way better IMO.

I really don't want to spew out any numbers as of yet since I don't know volume or material costs.

and make it one piece, not half hard, half soft rubber.

Its my rear lip other than a bbs, or zender 3pc.

How about a time frame? I'm going to go to a yard in the next few days, there's an e28 there that might have one. If I can get a replica that has stock mounting points, I'd rather get that.

I will stick with the TWO e30 Mtech 1 rear spoilers I have, Thanks...

Love the ambition you have in trying to make something other than fiberglass however...

Not sure what the 2nd half of that post means, but considering the mounting technique, I doubt I would be able to do a 1 piece design.

If there's actually a lot of demand for a 1 piece design I could look into different mounting to support that design.

2 piece is easier to paint if you want a 2 tone.

2 -iece would be more expensive wouldnt it? i'd think the cheaper you can get these, the better chances are people will pick em up

If you want cheap parts there are manufacturers out there that make fiberglass repo's.

I rather have a quality part on my car that fits nicely and is durable.
