Awkward when you see an e30 with a non-enthusiast?

I see e30's almost every day, often more than one in a day. I've seen one M3 and I gave the (old) guy a thumbs up, I swear to God he shook his head at me. I've seen one 'enthusiast' and a lot of young girls and old couples driving them. I wave at every one I see, sometimes it's awkward.

the nice remaining E30's I see I either know, or they are just plain stupid. By stupid I mean when I get into a conversation with them and it invariably ends up being a discussion of them potentially selling, they all think thier car is all of a sudden worth 7 to 10K!?!?

It goes something like this:

Me - "that's a nice E30" :o
Dipshit - "What did you say to me!?"
Me - "your 3 Series, it's clean!" :D
Dipshit - "I just washed it."
Me -:roll: "Is it a daily driver?"
Dipshit - "no, it's a BMW"
Me - "Are you entertaining the thought of selling it in the near future?"
Dipshit - "Oh, everything is for sale.. For a price, muahaha!"
Me - "ok then, have a good day"
Dipshit - "Well what do you think it is worth?"
Me - looking it over, "I'll give ya $2,500 for it."
Dipshit - "Pshhh, I've owned this since new, it is mint."
Me - "ok then, have a good day!"
Dipshit - "it needs nothing, I might consider $7000.."
Me - "ok then, have a good day!"
Dipshit - "What, you don't think it's worth that!? I could probably get more!"
Me - "well if you want my honest opinion it needs tires, new lenses, a new lower valence, new widshield, it's got rust here and here and a ding here, so to me it's worth paying $2,500"
Dipshit - "You don't even know what this car is, this is a BMW ///M 3 series, see!" (points to ///M emblem stuck to the back decklid, on the left hand side)
Me - "But it's got 6 cylinders."
Dipshit - "What's your point?"
Me - "Nevermind."

i see two of them around my area... one is some kid and the other is some 35ish year old guy. neither of them wave back :(

i live in the land of e30 verts, i swear. 90% of the e30's i see are verts and i'm talking i see different ones a few times a week. The e30's i see are typically driven by black men.

there are a few e30 enthusiasts around here and get a wave while passing from them.

Other than that, everything that everyone else has said about the non-enthusiasts is true

LOL thats happend to me with the m-tech emblem a few times. People are fucking dumb.

Pretty much every day that I drive I see at least a couple other e30s...I've had a few waves/high beam flashes. One time some older guy in a mint zinno iX (custom plate "325IX") pulled up next to me and said "Nice car, I have 3 of them!" and drove off :D

portland is littered with people know who what an e30 is. its nice.

I waved to a guy in a very nice alpine 325iX, he just stared at me like I had two heads.

On the flip side showstopper waved to me from his wifes subaru and I didn't know what to do.

ive been seeing alot of kids with e30s lately most of them are eta's and the only one i really know is dumb as hell

every time I see one around town I'll smile and either wave, throw up a peace sign, or just check out there car like eyeball it, and every they just look straight ahead, look at me like i'm a rapist, or I am just a creep.

The problem is the e30 is still a daily driver. The older BMW's become the less you see them being used as daily drivers. There are exceptions but for the most part it's true. You don't see 2002's that aren't in the hands of an enthusiast. I was at work and a guy with a POS 2002 drove up and I told him "nice car" and he was not the person i'd expect, but he said "thanks next month i'm going to strip it down and cure all the rust and do a full restoration...." blah blah blah. Point is every time i see a 2002 driver i smile and they will smile back or wave or throw up a peace sign.

You will find e30 enthusiasts all the time, but for majority they are women who know nothing about their car or just a person that doesn't know cars very well and doesn't want to work on them, just wants a working daily driver.

Lately in my area there has been an explosion of e30's and they all seem to be driven by non enthusists. I do drive the 535 daily so maybe they are thrown off when I wave or give a thumbs up, but it still upsets me. I did however get a wave from a middle aged woman in an e36 325i, who then tried to race me.... I won.
