well im going to hopefully carfax the car soon. Actually i really have no idea how to go about getting the car, i literally found it, no owner, no nothing, all i have is the VIN. I dont want to just take it because it may have been stolen, its been sitting behind my friends warehouse for about 3 months.

The valve cover and lack of ignition wires give away if its a 3.8 or 3.6

what does the 3.8 valve cover look like, if its any different then the one shown in the pictures, then the m5 for sure has a 3.6.Comment

i dont have a computer, im using a ps3 to go on the internet with no keyboard. Not very easy to search with. Cant really find anything either. I took the owners manual out of the m5 tho when i saw it. It says it has a 311hp, 265trq, 215cu.in. inline 6. I know the 535i is a 206cu.in. motor. Is the m5 motor just a bored out 535i motor? Also i have another question, the m5 is a dinan m5, what exactly does dinan do to the car? Last question, does the 535i motor fit in to e30 easily?
That being said, you'd have a very special car when it's done. Just make sure to factor all the other associated costs into doing a swap of this magnitude. Everything from your braking to clutch to suspension will need to be addressed. This certainly isn't a plug n play scenario.Comment

Please don't think I'm trying to be a dick, but I'm getting the sense from these questions that you may be in over your head. I don't think this is a swap for the faint of heart, at least not to do it right. The M5 is a great motor and Dinan makes it even more special. But because of the rarity of this motor, the costs will definitely pile up faster then a normal swap. M Motors always run high tolerances & special (read: "costly") parts.

on a similar note my neighbor just bought an e60M5. im thinking about taking his motor and doing a swap into my e30. im not sure how ill get the motor yet but if i can get it out of his car is this swap possible? hes only 4 doors away so i could put it on a dolly and wheel the whole subframe down to my house. what say ye?Comment

im in the automotive program at my college i have access to any machine or tool you can think of. I can make anything in the machine shop too. Fabbing up everything to make this motor work will not be a problem. Im not an idiot, i know what im doing. If the costs exceed the benifit then im just going to sell the motor. my car wont be swapped unless i know the motor will work. ive done lots of work with other motors, i just happened to own a e30 and happened to find this m5. I put the two together and thought maybe the m5 motor would work in my e30. i Dont like people who add there 2 cents when it gets me knowhere further. Its kinda common sense factoring in other things on my car when dropping in a motor with twice the power as my 2.5L.
And yes, you are going to have to be very determined in order to go through with the swap if this is your first time, even if you have every tool known to man at your disposal.paint sucksComment
