Someday all the bronzits will be gone because of this exact reason then it will be considered "cool" to have an original bronzit. If you don't believe me just wait. :D;)

But if you only want to touch it up... I don't think they sell bronzit or cirrusblau rattle cans...

Paintscratch.com has those, although they carry a price.

5K for me doing alot of disassembly on my M3, keeping the same color to fix a shit as job that Maaco was allowed to do by previous owner. Runs and thin spots and looks like crap expect it to flake off in two years or less.

Plenty of great painters in DC area. NCC and BFc local are good choices on how to find a bodyshop nearby, where you live.

I was living in Alexandria area know it well.

look thru some of my threads, I did Ferrari Red VW Cabriolet, completely changing the color.

LOL at taking the car to Maaco

I usually charge $3000-$3500 to paint 2 dr e30 that does not have body damage or rust. I am currently painting one, will post pics soon

I went to the bodyshop that BMW of Riverside subs their work out to. The price was mostly covered by insurance, but I'm just throwing that number out there for reference in terms of what a full quality respray could end up costing. Obviously, if you do the prep work yourself and have hookups, you can get it done for less. All the same, at least I got top quality work for the money.

I work in a body shop and let me tell you.. its not cheap.
Just a full respray at the place i work at (full primer, wet sand/block,same color, fix dents and shit, and no jambs) runs about 4-5K

Now if you want a color change ( full primer, wet sand/block and the jambs painted, and dents and what ever) that will be around 8-9K... its alot of bitch work and honestly i hate it when we get jobs like that. Cause its alot of meticulous work and you have to prep it very good. and then all the disassembly and assembly too.. oh man... i just hate thinkin about it...

But those prices vary depending on what ever you want and how you want it. and how big/small the car/truck is.
but we dont do cheap maaco shit.

you can get decent work out of a maaco, but you'd have to do ALL of the prep work yourself. even taping.

a paintjob is ONLY as good as the prep, and a place like earl sheib or maaco does the bare minimum of prep work.

i'd say take the entire exterior apart, removing all trim work, locks, antenna, handles, roundels, badges, grills, mouldings, etc..

and then fix all the dings, etc.

tape up anything still left on the car. windows, wiper shafts, etc.

go over the entire car with a DA sander and some 120 then 240, shoot it in a good primer-sealer, then block sand the fucker down, load it up with sealer again, block it again, then remove all the tape, clean the hell out of the car with some wax and grease remover, then re-tape everything you did before.

if it's as straight as you're willing to live with, then have it towed to maaco.

a monkey can learn to shoot paint. so long as the booth is clean, and there's enough clear on the car, it's kind of a no-brainer at this point.

almost any fuckups can be wet sanded out, and you can end up with a decent paintjob.

the money comes from the prep work time.

if you do all of it yourself, you can have the car shot for 600-1000 bucks, and make it look great. i'd even consider bringing them your own paint, so you know it's decent stuff... but, an all-over job can easily run 600 bucks, just in primer, paint, reducer, clear, etc.

bronzit can be a hot color if you match it with a nice black leather interior and non grey wheels (machined looks best IMHO)

same here, you pay for what you get though and im satisfied with fresh paint on a 21yo car whether it cost $500 or 3500.

Yeah, if you never done anything with a bondo like material, it can be pretty shitty and worth for some one else to do it. Luckily most of the e30 body is easy to work with.

Yet big enough runs are simple to encounter for noobies and you are forgetting about dry spots, tiger striping and not knowing what to do when fish eyes or etc come along.

Thats all just about the know how of the stuff. Its not all a no brainer.
