How long do these engines last.

anyone have links to a list of good preventative maintenance?

I adjusted my valves and try to keep the fluids changed regularly but details and more stuff I can do would be great.

It's not really complicated. Keep your engine in good tune, change the oil, plugs, air filters, and timing belts at the correct intervals.

288k on my stock M20. It's seen a lot of track miles too over the years. Synth oil and BMW brand coolant have helped I'm sure.

I wouldn't hesitate to drive it cross country.

Oh I know, the rings were showing good compression when we found the valve. But I knew I had a big tax return coming, so instead of rebuilding the head I just decided to drive it til it blew and swap in a 24v.

my eta has had the odometer stuck at 166,609 mi for three years, but I drive an average of 450 mi a week and have no problems... except for whenever i hit a bump my door alarm goes off and wont shut up, but that's also not engine related =D

There was an autotragic late model coupe that used to come into my old work bi-monthly for oil changes and fluid flushes.

650,XXX miles and going, thing ran great.

These cars will last forever if you love and maintain them properly.

OP You are asking how long a BMW motor lasts. Do you know the history of BMW?? They have been around a lot longer than you think. They used to build engines for airplanes in WW2. I think that I will trust them in an engine.
