    It's here and will be available for the public. BMW S 1000 RR Super Bike

    BMW has finally unveiled their new S 1000 RR super-bike, with 193 horsepower at 13,000 RPM, 82.5 lb-ft of torque at 9,750 RPM, 455.3 pounds with a full tank of gas… yes its that lite which gives the big S 1000 RR the most horsepower and best power-to-weight ratio of all literbikes intended for public consumption.

    The S 1000 RR will be available early 2010, $ TBD

      I don't think it's THAT heavy, my R6 wet was around 416.

      The weights you always see published for bikes are DRY weights. Which means, no oil/coolant/shock oil/gas/brake fluid/battery/etc.

        yeah my r6 is 359 dry "they" say. The R1 is only 390 dry

        I didn't see that the 455 was wet. Thats actaully pretty good then

          455lbs wet? That's not bad.

          But those headlights..... Anyone making an even headlight fascia? :p

            I think they are moving to post wet weights now, at least I read that somewhere.

            It's really not that heavy. That is wet weight. Would I want to pay the insane price for this beast when I don't need a liter bike? Probably not but it's pretty amazing.

              They say it'll be within the range of the 1000cc superbikes.

              But in any case. If I was in the market for a new superbike (pending positive reviews from riders), then this might as well be it. With the demand from thieves for japanese superbikes (my father already lost 3 R1s.... he already tried chains, gated communities, we even got one asshole on camera stealing the bike), I wouldn't mind paying the extra $1000-1500 as insurance that there will be little to almost NO demand since the S 1000 RR will have an aftermarket of .1% of what the japanese contenders will.

                3? That's terrible and I live in one of the worst states for vehicle theft.

                I see your logic and is a great way to succumb to being a brand whore. Haha :P

                    I think I would start parking it in the garage if they kept getting picked off like that. Sorry to hear it.

                      That's how the first one went. At the time my pops had an FZ1 and an R1. The FZ1 was parked outside the garage. They broke into the garage and took the R1. FZ1 was left untouched.

                      We moved to a gated community with cameras when our lease was up (in early 2006). This was at the suggestion of the officer who wrote the original police report, saying that there would be a case if we had any video footage.

                      Then he got the 2nd R1. This one lasted the most at 8 months. It was stolen along with a brand new CBR. The guys exited through the regular door (for people) and we caught them on camera. Sweet! There's a case.

                      But he was wearing a helmet, and there's no way to ID him. That's what the new cop said as soon as he saw the footage.

                      So convinced it wouldn't happen again, my pops picked up his 3rd R1. This time he chained wheel and suspension to the pillar. Still at the same apartment with cameras and whatnot. This one got picked up at his favorite restaurant, where he's been eating lunch every day at work for over 10 years. Funny enough, everyone knows him and his bike there. He can even get away with parking at the front door's sidewalk. They took the bike while he ate lunch. This bike lasted no more than 2 months. Sadly there were no cameras, and miraculously no waiters were out in smoke break to see anything.

                      The cop this time said that 80% of the bikes stolen are year model bikes, which made sense since my pops always got them brand new.

                      His 4th R1 was a used beat up '06. Over a year going and it's still there. He claims this might just be the first R1 he is able to actually resell.

                      And lo-jack on bikes are useless. 90% of the time the bike will be in pieces long before the owner realizes it's gone missing.

                      But yeah... moral of the story: If they want it bad enough, they'll get it.

                      Which is why I loved my FZ6. If I had to pick up another bike (although I am never daily riding them again) I would go with the FZ6R. Almost an R6, just not with the R6 demand.

                      Anywho, I digress. But just watching these horrible experiences is why I would personally chose the new BMW bike if it lives up to all this hype. Less attention from thieves = good. Especially considering how stupid easy bikes are to steal apparently.

                        I like the FZ6-R too.
                        I miss my SV.
                        I still want a D675.

                        I can't convince myself that I want to ride the back 60+ miles a day with the recent accident climb in NH. 12+ deaths already this year for bikers. :(

                        Using it as a toy is hard to justify too... takes time away from the boat, the M3, and other activities. I don't really want to hike a mountain, and then get on my motorcycle to ride home on "jello" leg muscles. ;)

                          Dang Erick thats crazy. I'm glad his new r1 has managed to stay home. It sucks they weren't able to catch the guy/guys.

                            My thoughts exactly. I did the daily riding for a whole year. Wouldn't go back to it. And my track car is enough of a weekend toy. So the bike would do a lot of sitting and just not being used.

                              The new FZ6R is a great package, in my opinion it should be lighter but that's the only thing I see wrong with it.
