I have been having trouble with my 318is. I am having to replace the brakes, driveshaft assmbly, and lower control arms. The clutch to in about 10k. Should i try to sell it how it is or should i put up the 1500 dollars to get all my problems fixed then sell it. Or finally should i fix it and keep it? Need advice bad in a big bind. thanks

Besides the problems listed, is the car mechanically solid? If it has not been well maintained and has really high mileage I would sell it. If it is a solid 318is with only those problems I would fix it and keep it. These cars seem to go forever. I just finished a brake overhaul and a new clutch assembly for my 318is and I plan to drive it through out college. I did brakes and the clutch for only $360 and that includes having to buy some tools that I did not have to do the job, but it sounds like your price is including labor.............ouch!- 318is 4 life

If you don't have the cash to keep it up, sell the thing and get a lower maintenance car...
I'd buy it as is for an s50 swap :)

big problem is none of us have a 2 ton press, and my dad is really anal about who works on the car and where? but some good news is that im thinking about moving to Texas for 2nd semester, the summer, and 1st semester of next year. My aunt will pay me 10/ hr under the table if i put numbers into her computers at work :). so over the next 8-10 months hopfully i will really be able to pimp out the car: get rid of all rust on car, fix tranny, brakes, clutch, control arms, tie rods, drive shaft, mods: flywheel, port polish, valve grind, headers, super charger, rims, tires, smoked every thing(lights), tint, sway bars, strut bars, suspension, camber plats, is spoiler, side skirts, rear skirt, finally new paint, and windsheild. hope fully it will turn out really pimp. Koser might come with me too, so we will definately be doing all the work that doesn't involve a 2 ton press 8). we'll post progress pics, once we get started on our cars.

Itemize the problems you have with the car. Then put them in order : Most urgent to least. That will help things alot. You shouldn't need a press if you are going to replace the control arms as most come with new bushings allready. The idea is to fix the things that need to be fixed FIRST, in order to keep the car safe (safety first). A lot of the work IS easy DIY stuff, and ill be happy to help you. If you're dad is anal about stuff, let him watch or help. Another thing is what are you comfortable doing? I know im confortable on suspension/brakes, you know I work virtually free, maybe buy me lunch or some beer, but hell, ill help in a heart beat. Afterall you helped on my suspension.
Keep the car. Unless you really don't feel that it is something you want. There are tons of people that would love a low milage late model 318iS, even with a bit of rust.

rust im going to take care of my self. its mostly under the car all it needs is time and lots of hard sand blasting, and sanding ill send before and after pics once i get started. the paint isn't that bad, strach hear a few rock nicks but ill still sand it all down once i start just in case of rust under the paint.
