    ball joint separation

Hey everybody. I recently have started a project on my e30. I am replacing all the worm out rubber bushings on my suspension. I am having trouble separating the ball joint shaft from my front struts, this is the only thing stopping me from pulling my old front struts out. Yes I tried the search function, yes I tried a pickle fork, to no avail. Is there a trick to this, do I just need a BFH, maybe a rivet gun. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

2 ways to get it out.
    1. If you are putting new control arms, Beat it off with a lead hammer. Loosen the nut to the top and hammer away.
    2. Ball Joint Seperator tool.

ball joint seperator looks like a good tool to keep pressure on the shaft while you "ring the bell" (where you hit ring that the ball joint shaft goes through by deforming it with vibrations thus forcing the shaft out)

          fuck all that noise ^^^^

get a air imapct hammer or borrow one and a compressor

get a small spike anvil, put the nut on the end of the ball joint 1/2 waythreded and then insent the tip of athe anvil inside, pull trigger for 5 seconds then remove the offending part.

Thsi works for eveything that is pressed in bt time and force...like stub axels and tirerods and ball joints. This is why the tuop of the ball joints is dimpled...for a spike anvil.

I ahve one like this..i think it was 15 bucks with the anvils
