I don't get why people think this. What are you going to save by going with a 20 or 30mm narrower section width? Maybe 20 bucks a tire? So what, a whole 10% savings?

It's not at all about money.

you're talking out of your ass, and hopefully failed physics. For that matter, I hope you weren't allowed through geometry:

when you stretch tire wall, you're also altering contact surface of the tire.

hopefully I don't have to explain air pressure inside of the tire and normal acceleration of a rotating object to you.

I allways thought people with these crazy stretched tires could put a belt on the outer wheel lip and then power farm implements off of the spinning wheel.

Personaly i don't like the stretched look. Mariano's M3 is about the limits of stretch that looks good imo.

That's cute. Did you draw that up yourself?

Take a close look; you may notice that the tire actually appears ballooned out if anything.

Once again, some people do things for looks rather than performance. Is it that hard to get through your head?

i guess you E30 guys don't understand stretching tires it mainly for fitment a lot of drifters run 18 *9 or 10 or 11 etc and there cars are slammed so run wider tires with less sidewall. Then theirs the people that use stretched tires for show.:p me personality i like stretched tires when one right.

I'm not either, exposing the rim of the wheel looks pretty stupid to me. In fact I will probably never run them.

But it does improve the response of the tire.

I'd say that having a proper tire does a much better job of responding.

depends on the used i mean of course for daily driving i rather have the appropriate tire size.

No, for pretty much anything. Show me one real racer that uses a stretched tire.

Racing tires typically have a stiff enough sidewall that stretching wouldn't really add anything, you are just decreasing tread width.
