This is why you don't park your car under a transformer

Let my other vert to my brother for a test drive as he wanted to buy it from me and he ended up parking it underneath a leaky transformer.

The insurance company wants me to take the car to a detailer to see if they can remove the crap off the paint and bumpers but I don't think it will come off the cloth skin of the hardtop.

So the question is this... have the hardtop rewrapped or painted instead?

I don't know what it is.

The stuff on the paint feels like cooled wax and flakes off when I push it with a fingernail but the stuff on the roof seems to have bonded with the fibers.

You know, i think that's what happened to my 528i except no where near as bad and a good clay and detail cleaned it right up. I was wondering wtf that was though. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure the stuff inside power transformers is some kind of oil, I think it's mineral-based, to cool and insulate the internals.

And the city had better cover that shit.

But that does suck big time. Did you complain to the city?

The power company should pay for this. Not your insurance! Sad to see this I will assume that there are no PCB's or carcinaginics in power transformers in Canada?

The city is paying for the decuctible and the insurance company is paying for the repairs.

The estimate right now is $2000 to reskin the hardtop and I dropped it off at the upholstery shop this afternoon.

I really did want to paint it but the retro cool look of the blue cloth won me over.

I don't see why your insurance company is paying for it. It was their property that caused the damage, not like it was a tree.

What's it gonna be wrote up as? Hit&Run? Are your rates going up?
