Tread carefully here my friends. A long while ago I bought some "grade 8" bolts at Ace, and I had one fail on me. Just this last quarter I did a project for a graduate level materials class and I analyzed grade 5 and grade 8 bolts from Ace. Turns out that the grade 8 bolts were out preformed by the grade 5 on numerous occasions.
They sell shit hardware at Ace.

Typically junkyards don't charge for nuts and bolts. I seriously doubt that the guy behind the counter would be able to spot a bumper bolt compared to an alternator or starter bolt.
Sometimes if you have a handful of screws, clips, etc, they might charge you something nominal like a couple of bucks. Or if your junkyard of choice is not into giving out freebies, what you can do is get the bolts and then get something cheap like a sun visor off of a buick. Put everything on the counter together and they will throw it all in for the cost of the sun visor.Comment

I'd like to thank most of you for the responses. I would've replied to this thread earlier had I not been out working on the car all day.
First, tell your dealer to fuck off.
Second, have you checked other resources for what the actual list price is? Realoem has them listed for $24 each, which is still pretty crazy.
Someone here should be able to get you 2 used bolts for peanuts. Maybe post a WTB thread? If you want to get them new, contact blunt on this board. He can get any oem part at a good price.
Good luck.
Our junkyards don't have BMWs in them, but thankfully we do have local business which specialize in parting BMWs. I've already been to every hardware store in three towns nearby and have come up empty handed.
Awesome - thank you. :)
I'm in Canada if you haven't noticed, and that changes quite a few things (and renders this answer irrelevant for me).

Just my two cents... but most dealers have a computer system that can “hot rod" the price of parts with simple input from the parts manager. They do not care what the part is normally, the part's wholesale price falls into preset price ranges the wholesale price determines the mark up. The margins will vary from dealer to dealer and inexpensive slow moving parts will always bear the most margin just depends how big the parts manager’s balls are.
I had great success with Quality Fasteners in San Antonio in past and have been able to buy anything metric in high grade stainless and you can order bulk quantities if needed.Imported from DetroitComment
