    e36 wagon?

As you must know by now, I really want a wagon for a daily driver. e30 touring seems like it would be too difficult to get legalized over here.

so I was thinking over other wagon options. I don't want an s4 or something, because a. its too much money and b. I'd prefer to stay bimmer.

a friend of mine's mom has an e36 touring. They imported it when they moved back from Italy though. I would try to buy it from them, but for one its auto, and two I don't think they'd sell it. they love bimmers, and just bought their son a beautifully restored e30 cabrio

are there e36 wagons in the states?

is my only option for a reasonably priced bimmer touring an e34 5 series?

Doubt there are many and its going to cost too much to legalize to be worth your time.

No E30 or E36 tourings were sold in the states.

Looks like E34 is your friend...

I'm pondering just ditching the wagon idea and picking up an e39 540i

i thought about e36 m3 for a minute, but wouldn't really want to put it through a winter

Depending on the year/model of the E39 touring you may spend just as much for an E46 touring.....which isn't a bad looking "wagon" IMHO. Ben Laiu (sp?) did a sweet drivetrain swap with one of these recently. A late model E46 touring with S54 engine/tranny combo. Not cheap....but probably really f-ing quick. Check the European Car website....they did an article on this very car within the last 2 or 3 months.

if I went e39 I'd just get a sedan, and get a roof rack. I'd have plenty of room in the trunk with one 10" sub, and the 540i would be nice. just do wheels, exhaust, chip, intake, and maybe keep an eye out for a totalled m5 a bit down the line and swap (maybe).

I don't think that Audi's are much less reliable than BMWs. I've had a few. I'd say get a 1991 200 20V or a 1992-1993 S4/S6 Avant. That's the wagon I'd get if I really wanted one. There's a E36 wagon here in Portland with an M3 body kit. The guy imported it.

stick with the 325ix touring idea.....that car would be a lot cooler. Maybe it won't get you all the bitties, but I'd be in the palm of your hand with that car
                          - 2000 Audi S4 Stg 2 (sold)
                          - house (bought)
                          - 1997 Civic Hatch (shaky but driveable)

that's the car I would PREFER to get, but it's not within my means (greg implied it would be upwards of ten grand to get one over here and registered).

so I have to look for something a bit more popular
