It looks like it is your cat that caught on fire... which I have seen happen. But a Muffler?

It doesnt matter where the clog is....if there is a backup in the exhaust system...something bad will happen.

why did you post asking for advice if you arent gonna take any thats given to you? it doesnt matter what the exterior of your exhaust looks like, most likely cause of it getting hot is due to clogging internally. you cant see that from the outside.

the original poster person daid he has had no lack of power, wouldnt that indicate that he does not have a clogged muffler

another thought would be somhow the timing got off, sounds weird, but I saw a turbo volvo exsaust get red hot due to the timing being off, the guy cooked his turbo bearings too

If the timing was incorrect OP would have a loss of power also, he's already stated no difference in performance... around and around we go.

Sounds like a legitimate excuse to buy a laser thermometer and do some checking on the exhaust.

Since the car was barely driven it probably has rust build up inside the muffler. Get a free flowing exhaust and hold on to the original parts. When my cat cat melted it just shot out of my muffler. Funny watching a ball of molten goo roll down the highway in my rear view and cars trying to dodge it. LOL

How mint the exhaust system is? Lol. If what the outside of the cat/muffler looked like mattered, then you would be right. It is what's going on inside the exhaust that matters. There is obviously something obstructing your exhaust. It could be in the muffler or cat. Is the floor hot above the cat too? Or is that shit running extremely lean?

Nope not hot over the cat, I will take some laser readings!

So im starting to think that im the only one with this problem?

Maby it was just the 106 heat here in TX.

What is the temp where you all are at?

It doesn't always happen this was the first experience...
