    Bad weekend for the iS

Started Friday night when I got off work and was heading to a friends house. I have to drive through a constuction area which I've driven through everyday to and from school. There's this one sewer cap the sticks up from the road that I have learned to avoid, and I guess this time I just mis-judged. The oil pan nailed the sewer cap and as soon as it happened I knew it was done for. Suspicions were confirmed when and the next stoplight smoke was raising up from under the car. So I pull the car over, shut it off, and push it into a hotel parking lot. Being as this is a safe town and it was 11 pm I figured that I didn't wanna wait on a tow truck I parked the car for the night and got my friend to take me home.

So the next day I go to the car with my friends and we wait on the tow truck. Looking back on it I shouldn't have let the guy even touch my car as on the way up he mis-shifted and drove over 2 curbs with his rear tires. So the guy parks the truck behind the car and does his thing, winching and what not. Being the dumbass he was he didn't put the parking brake on and when the bed flattens out my car rolls right into a pile of misc. crap and bends my front valance. I was furious, but decided to allow the guy to drive the truck, with my car on top, to my house. Everything goes smooth when he takes my car off and then we get to the part where I confront him about the damage.

I tell him that the damage needs to be repaired and he starts to try to bend the valance back by hand. I told him the get the hell away from my car and that it needed to be done professionally. So he just walks back to his truck and calls his night manager and 5 other tow truck drivers saying that me and my friends threatened him. Well about 10 minutes later his manager and 5 other tow trucks show up at my house. Funny how when I want my car towed it takes 1 guy 2 hours to get there but when the driver is "threatened" it takes 5 guys 10 min. So I tell the what happened and they say the damage could have happened when the oil pan was hit. I was quick to point out that the oil pan and the valance damage didnt line up and it couldn't have. When I say this they get on the defensive and start trying to intimidate my and my friends, getting in our faces, shining flashlights in our eyes, name calling, just stupid stuff. At this point I actually feel threatened and call the police. They get there and separate us and take each side of the story and have the tow truck driver get the bill. So I get the bill for the tow and the manager says to come into the shop and talk to the owners on the company and see what they'll do. So when I get the car drivable I'm gonna take them the car and see if they fix it. If they decline I am gonna take them to small claims court as I think I have a pretty solid case with pictures as well as testimonys from 2 witnesses plus myself. Here are so pictures and I'll keep you guys updated with what happens.

    damn dude...
That shit has happened to me before.
a shop broke my wing that was 8 days old, and when told them they needed to fix it, they said they had 5 guys confirming that it was broken when I brought it to the shop, which is total BS.
Good luck with this, if I were you, when he was on the phone to his manager and 5 monkeys I would have called the cops, seeing as it was an "accident" and the police should always be involved if you feel that it could get you into a hairy situation.

Seems like you were in a real bad situation, but handled it pretty well.

Hopefully you'll have them fix it completely and not have the tow-trucker union (do they have one?) give you beef.

      Good luck!

Robby I've been through the exact same thing... my '89's oilpan is still leaking a bit after I cracked it. It's minimal so I decided not to go after the ones responsible for the road hazard that I went up against.

Anyways, Good luck with your car man. There's not much I can do but to share the pain in the ass experience of cracking an oil pan.

Take care and good luck getting your car back on the road,
          Erick
