where is the factory battery location?

so i was looking in the manual that came with my car the other day. i noticed it showed the battery under the hood. mine isn't like this. mine is in the trunk. did someone do this or do some come like this from factory?

It's like that from factory. Only a few cars have it up front. Mainly convertibles and early model 318s

Was the battery in the trunk for better weight distribution?

from what i've seen, 318's, vert's and tourings had the battery up front. 325's always have it in the back. ///M3s have it in the trunk as well.

in the 318's it was for weight distribution, verts because there was no room, and the touring for the same reason as the vert.

the 325's had a lower percentage of weight in the back, compared to the 318's, ( 4cyl vs inline 6) so they have the battery in the back to balance it out.

as for the ///M3's, i'm not sure why (they have a 4cyl, so thats not why), maybe for more room under the hood? maybe somebody with more ///M experience than me can explain it better.
