    Shipping problems

im pretty new to selling parts off on ebay and such. Im selling a hood on there, and i used the shipping calculator they have, and it said 50 bucks for shipping. sounded good. went and got a quote from usps and ups and they both want outrageous amounts of money to ship it. i think usps said something like 175 and ups wont ship it ground so its like 300!

any recommendations or cheaper ways to ship?

oh yeah, for reference dimensions are 58x50x7 and its aprox. 40-50lb.

check out greyhound..I have never done it but I know some people ship large items that way..someone will have to pick it up at the station though..they do not deliver to addresses.

It's because it's such an awkwardly sized shape and kinda heavy too.

Be weary of Greyhound. . . I shipped a passenger side door to a member of this forum in January and they lost it. I just received the money that greyhound owed me for losing the door yesterday. Also, you do not want to have to talk to their customer service. . . It SUCKS.

Dont feel bad. I sold a 325i trigger wheel and CPS sensor. Sold it for 25 shipped to a guy in canada. Thinking shipping wouldnt be any more then 8.00
HAHA shipping was 32.00, Talk about being double fucked in the ass with no lube!!!

But yeah, for the hood sheck out fedex ground or greyhound like posted above. Open a fedex account if you dont already have one. You will save like 20% on shipping.

yeah, I once tried to ship a hood, decided it would be better just to give the money back, i was quoted at almost $400 to ship it. I don't know how businesses do it but when I bought a new hood and it was shipped with free fedex shipping.

i would recommend not using the Ebay shipping calculator, way too general and generic.

You really need to get the final BOXED dimensions and weight and used the various online rate calculators at USPS, UPS, Fed-Ex, etc.... then add $5-10 bucks(at least) for a buffer.

Final costs are always seem to be different, like depending on whether you use Staples UPS, A UPS hub, UPS store, etc...

Something like a hood is almost impossible to ship for a reasonable price, unless you are a big corporate supplier that has a big profit margin and big discounts with the shipping companies...

Companies that ship alot of items get discounts, we are shipping waht in the industry is referred to as LTL less than truckload so they need to plan routes to fill a truck so trucking companies make a profit as well.

I prefer dealing with larger bulky items as local sale only.

I was weary about greyhound but a member of the forum used it to get a rear seat to me. Came out good and I'd probably use them for a large item. They store your item if you aren't there to pick up and are supposed to call you when it arrives. I'd recommend greyhound cause their prices are extremely reasonable.

ok, looked it up, and greyhound seems to be an awesome deal. however i have to see if they will still ship since one of the sides (50in width) is over their requred max dimensions. but if they give me the go ahead on the quote, itd be only $70! and about 2 days time from pt. a to pt. b.
