Gauging Interest in Hood support solution

I'll let the pictures do the talking:

The piece/unit uses the stock mounting points and would fairly inexpensive...around $25. Working on some mods for it already, but it beats the stock support and still allows the hood to still properly close.

    Thoughts?

What's wrong with the shock? Mine works perfectly.

I hate hoods with the stupid prop up stick, usually on POS japanese or american cars. :p

how much is a new hood shock? Mine is orignal and works fine, but my hood is pretty light. I have a spare from the parts car that works fine too.

while mine works at times, it was certainly not all that stable. I'm sure there are others that can attest to some bruising caused by the stock shock.

I'd use of one these when I'm working on the car, but then I'd put the stock shock back on for normal use.

The issue with a solid prop is that if you (or someone else) is used to the shock, you get a pretty rude surprise when you pull the hood down with the solid prop in place. :o

Once one makes a concious effort to remember the prop, it works....its not for everyone...shoot it may not be for anyone...thus the thread. :)

The stock hood shock working SO well is one of the best things about working on the E30s.

I would be pissed if someone put that on my car.

agreed...but why buy a new one when you have a piece of aluminum in the garage? :D

To reinforce the OP's idea: you've never experienced joy until you've had the car jacked up at the front with the hood open and shake the car, having the hood come down on you.

If the wheel assembly at the corner had hit my head I very likely would be dead.

                        So this = good idea.

mine works well too, I just use a cloth and visegrips on the hood shock to keep it from falling.
No damage comes to the shock rod.....and its been working for years.

i think you should work on making it double hinged instead, so it can open either direction.
