check what info? 200k miles on an m42 requires some serious maintenance... mainly the timing chain components.

I like the m42 especially with a lightened flywheel...very revy/fun. but be ready for this one to grenade on you. just get an m50 lined up when that happens :-D

Only if you ignore replacing the tensioner every 50k. The timing chain is a lifetime component. I don't know about you but I would rather replace the tensioner every couple of years instead of a timing belt.

and the chain, and the gears.. lol. the M42 was almost experimental in a way. BMW's first mass produced 4v engine. It's a good motor but definitely not the strongest ever made by BMW.

You're not the brightest and don't seen to understand machinery do you?

What about the guides you dot? 188k miles

Change the chain tensioner every 50k miles and you'll never have to worry about the chain, gears or plastic guides. At 188k miles my timing gear is still in perfect condition. Even dropped the lower oil pan for a fresh gasket and everything was fine. Do you think it'll suddenly all go to shit when it at 200k? Get real. These are all lifetime components. Ignore the chain tensioner and you'll be replacing every timing component at 100k miles.

Have you pulled the plastic guides at 188k and they had no grooves?
