Depends on which E24 you're talking about. I would like to own an M6 someday but even the 635Csi makes a nice classy cruiser and they are built like tanks. Such a heavy car needs a lot of power though if you want to really get around in them."I'd probably take the E30 M3 in this case just because I love that little car, and how tanky that inline 6 is." - thecj

I'm not sure what e24 it is, I saw it on autotrader and didn't write it down. Are they reliable, they aren't quick are they?

Stock US M30's didn't make 200+hp untill the 1988 revision for the debut of their fattest car ever, the E32 7-series. Also found in the E34 535. This 218hp M30 was used in the E24 for 1988-89 only. Pre-88 US 3.5's made 182hp. E24 635 is an E28 535 with a different body and seats. Reliability is about the same as an E30. Most would be about as quick as an E30 in a straight line, some quicker.Comment

My bad, forgot that bmwinfo favors cars on that side of the pond. I was driving home from a friends house in my eta tonight and one flew past me doing about 80-90. Awesome car it was.Comment

I'd buy one but it would have to be EU spec as the god awful US bumpers are ugly. And I would have to know maintance history.
They are also an electrical nightmare waiting to happen.Comment

6 series are cool.. I wouldn't call them money pits. The m30 is a great, solid, esay to work with engine. I don't care much for the beast like feel/size of the E24, however that's just personal opinion. Without knowing any details.. it's hard for anyone to say whether the one you're looking at is worth 2500. I wouldn't pay 2500 for one unless it was in VERY nice shape.

Hardly. There isnt much more to them than there is to E30s...only some of the stuff in the climate control system is more complex but they are standing up to the test of time pretty well. Most of the electrics are shared with E28s and some E30 stuff too.Originally posted by M-technik-3They are also an electrical nightmare waiting to happen.Adam Fogg- '88 M3
