I'm curious were you get the 120 pound saving from as the S50/S52 wiegh's more than the M30 ?

There's a video clip floating out on the web of that concept....except its a E36 coupe shell with pumped up S14 power. You've probably seen it before. Pretty insane shit.

Been around for awhile. The privateers in UK ran that in their DTM series but I believe it was under 2.0L.
If i'm not mistaken, you're talking about ETCC.. and they ran 320i's... which are S42's..
Actually, the E36 touring cars ran both engines. IIRC, they ran the 2.0L S14 up to 93, then switched over to the S42, which provided a slightly 'broader' power band.

I was a bit off on the numbers, it is actually closer to 95-100 pounds heavier than the M50. A fully dressed M50 with manifolds, wiring, A/C, and ALL other accessories weighs 405 pounds. The last M30 my dad shipped, fully assembled but missing A/C compressor and power steering weighed 470 including the pallet, but it was missing a good 40 pounds worth of accessories.

The M30 is an enormous motor, and carries a lot of weight.

It may weigh alot but there is no substitution for Cubic inches nor TQ it's capable of producing and they are bullet proof. Kinda like the old venerable slant six 225 CI of Mopar power.

During the 1980's it was a torquer for sure, and made a lot more of it than the small-sixes at the time. Though even the most powerful M30 (making about 230 lb/ft in 3.5L form) is shy of even the 3.0L M50, not to mention the 3.2.

M30's are super cheap to build, but an S50 will run circles around it, while being a more compact and lighter, not to mention 24v. :?
