Brand New Porsche c4s vs e30 Dinan Turbo

So i'm on my way to work the other day when i spot this blue porsche in my rear view mirror. I'm really not driving fast or anything, just keeping up with traffic and switching lanes to pass whenever one opens up. So this guy just follows me the whole time, probably having fun with his new car. He gets ahead of me at one point, and does the same thing i was doing but every time the road would open up with no cars around he would really step on it. So i followed for a bit.

Well, what do you know we both find ourselves next to each other at a red light with absolutely no traffic ahead of us at all. Seeing the way this guy has been driving i figure he'd probably want to show off or something. The light turns green and we both start off like normal, but hold on to first gear (at least on my end) until its reving pretty high, didnt want to take off until i noticed him step on it. As we both switch into 2nd he steps on it and i do too. The crazy thing, we are both going all out, and i'm side by side with him the whole time... i backed off into third gear b/c third for me goes all the way up to 110mph and that would be more stupid than i was already being. At the next light we both looked over at each other, i smiled and waved and he gave me a smiling thumbs up. I wonder how he felt about the whole thing considering the MSRP on one of those is like $93K.

Of course i'll admit right now, that there are a lot of variables to this and in no way does this justify me saying that i'm as quick as a c4s. But to me thats not the point... the point is that to that one guy, he couldnt leave a 20 year old BMW in his $93K porsche. Although i must say, that thing was beautiful.

Isnt that great when your car that maybe costs 15k can beat cars over 75k.

I know right? I mean it actually cost me more than 15k to build my car to where it is now... but the point is still the same. When i got to work i quickly looked up the c4s to see what porsche rated it at (385bhp and 310ft/lb of torque). I know i have way more torque than that, and i also weigh a good 300 lbs less... but still makes me want to get it re-dynoed since i've changed a few things to the setup.

very very satisfying, huh? but not in a cocky manner, just in a "it feels good to have something of this age be able to still show the new school a thing or two".

I love kicking the shit out of STI. Those kids throw the biggest shit fits. Its really surpising what a 25 year old car can do.

There's no doubt a well built e30 can take on the majority of cars out there. I love hearing these stories. It really makes me look forward to my engine build!

Wow. Reading stories like this really gets me psyched for my engine build. How much hp does your dinan turbo put out?

well yeah... diesel jetta probably had 90hp stock ALH motor. With a tune/injectors he would have left you there :-)

When i had my old e30, i got spanked real hard by a 2g eclipse. And i mean realll hard. I knew i had the better car... but i def didnt feel fine about it haha. And you are right the 997.2 is an incredible car. I know it, you know it, he knows it... but if i jsut spent $90K on a car I'd be like wtf. Unless he was a true BMW/Porsche enthusiast.... in which case if i were in his shoes i'd be happy to have run across a boxy old bimmer like that. I guess it really just comes down to perspective.

BMW and Porsche enthusiasts tend to overlap, I wouldn't be too surprised if he had a better idea of what was going on with your car than you might imagine.

Wish mine would keep up like that though =(
