And I just posted this inquiry on my local forum. I like e36's and would love just one m3 to dd (e36's make great dd's). but at the same time I could keep my 97 328i and do this instead;

Just a crazy thought. I have plans to sell my m3 and 328i and buy a 4 door m3.

but in my mind's ramblings, I can't help but dwell on the fact that my dad has a '72 240z, sitting in primer with an uncracked dash, 45k original miles, that he would let me have for 1k.



original color is lime green. which I think is SO FUCKING COOL. Everyone in the datsun crowd despises this color, but I fucking love it. jams and bay are still original color, and though dirty the paint is in darn nice shape



maaaybe I could get a little project going on since I have all this free time lately.

if I were to seriously kick around this idea; I just can't do an rb26. I don't have the money right now. I would only have like $5k to play with after the cost of the car, and that needs to include paint, (I'd paint it myself) motor, suspension and brakes.

I'd have to decide between 2.8 turbo fi, or ls1 (or ls6. that's the c5 vette motor, correct? what are the differences). ls1/6 have an aluminum block, correct? what is the weight of the motor? what about the manual trans (t56 it's called, right)?

I've been checking prices of ls1/ls6's on ebay to no avail. Even completed listings doesn't really yield me any results. What do these motors go for? specs? same with the ls6 plz

again, just rambling. I still may just only do an m3 sedan. I just think a lime green 240z would be sick, and even moreso with a fucking ls1. what y'all think?

btw if I do this and keep my e36 328, I am totally selling my bbs rs2's, getting m contours 8.5 all around and powder coating them gloss black, and getting it some h&r sports & billy sports

and another 72 with an L28 in it.

we also have an entire early 71 cut up, and my old 71 that I stripped, both sitting in the basement at his house

edit: actually that trackday is the reason I'd be willing to do this project. They weigh ~2200 lbs and handle great. I was killing everyone in his car (which has archaic brakes) in the corners. the lack of power made the straights tough though (obviously I'm about to get passed by the benz).

do it and go with the l28 turbo. makes great power and is built like a tank. simple to work on. can't beat a straight six.

You can get an LS1/T56 for 2k if you find a good deal. The engine/trans weight is not much more or less than a M20 and trans. I think it's +50 lbs, but the T56 is 155 lbs, so more of the weight is rearward.

SBC and 5.0 swaps are VERY common in 240z's.

I'm seriously considering going l28et. they make great power and can be had dirt cheap. the selling point for me? I hate the way the l28et looks. vacum lines and hoses everywhere

My father is the one who got me into them, He brought his back from Japan when he was stationed there during Vietnam. And has been into them ever since. Just look through the Old Skool JDM picture thread!

my ideal stable would be a 4 door m3 dd, a 240z with an rb26, and an s52 e30 m3 (or another touring). so I think an e36 328 dd and a boosted 240z would hold me over well for now
