need to get my a/c working

im driving to cali in a week or so and i need to get my a/c working. i have no clue where to start, as far as i can tell when i turn the ac button on the idle doesnt change or anything which is why i think something is wrong with and it doesnt need a recharge. i searched for a while and all i found was recharging info. any help would be very appriciated

If there is no refrigerant in your system the compressor will not kick on when you press the a/c button, at least that is the way it works on modern cars.

Its not very hot down here right now, if you can stand the 106 degree temps in GH right now you can stand our 75 degrees, lol

Is it just me, or have there been a huge influx of these types of questions in the last like 3 days or so?

We should have looked at it the other day dude.

Check to see if it's charged, just poke the bleed nipple really quick to see if any Freon shoots out. There are A/C hoses tucked right inside the lip of the passenger side fender. If it's not charged then charge it up.

I know my car wasn't charged AND I didn't have a belt to the compressor even.

I do'nt know a lot about A/C but I wouldn't waste time converting b/c as far as I know it's a lot more work and it just gains you a nicer environmental footprint. I'd rather save the time and money.

PS: check if it's charged very quickly... you're not supposed to let that freon out in the air. I just don't know of any other way to see if it's charged, and I'm betting it isn't.

              Check that belt too!

Wait. r12 and save money in the same sentence? Lol. Mine needs a recharge but I would rather not drop 100 dollars on r12 just to find out my system doesn't hold pressure.

I guess I hadn't thought of that as being a possibility.

I'm not too familiar with A/C as I just ripped mine out ;)

Will a normal recharge kit work or do I need something special?
