...and I still bought the thing!
Somehow I was talked into buying an older brother for my e30. My friend that works at a dealership just took several cars in trade from an 'older' gentleman. One of the five cars traded in was a 1982 320i.
I went and looked at it tonight. The Alpineweiss was dingy, the fabulous blue interior was shredded, and the spare-tire well has a hole in it, but the m10 purred like a kitten and the body was strait.
I decided to whip it around the block for a test drive. Boy, that was fun. No clutch, no brakes. About 30mph in 3rd was all the car could muster before the sound of a thousand cats in a giant meat-grinder and the sickly smell of burning clutch blotted out all your senses.
I blew through a four way, since I couldn't have stopped if I wanted to. And upon returning to the lot I had to make a run for it to get up the fairly steep entryway, I narrowly missed a Caddilac CTS parked in the drive. Did I mention that this car has no power steering?
So after regaining my composure, and what was left of my sanity, I mentioned $400. My buddy said he'd run it past the lot manager.
....now I have an e21. Did I mention I have no where to park it? I'll figure that out in the morning, or at least when they tell me to get the thing off their lot.
