    Most terrifying test drive ever...

...and I still bought the thing!

Somehow I was talked into buying an older brother for my e30. My friend that works at a dealership just took several cars in trade from an 'older' gentleman. One of the five cars traded in was a 1982 320i.
I went and looked at it tonight. The Alpineweiss was dingy, the fabulous blue interior was shredded, and the spare-tire well has a hole in it, but the m10 purred like a kitten and the body was strait.
I decided to whip it around the block for a test drive. Boy, that was fun. No clutch, no brakes. About 30mph in 3rd was all the car could muster before the sound of a thousand cats in a giant meat-grinder and the sickly smell of burning clutch blotted out all your senses.
I blew through a four way, since I couldn't have stopped if I wanted to. And upon returning to the lot I had to make a run for it to get up the fairly steep entryway, I narrowly missed a Caddilac CTS parked in the drive. Did I mention that this car has no power steering?
So after regaining my composure, and what was left of my sanity, I mentioned $400. My buddy said he'd run it past the lot manager.
....now I have an e21. Did I mention I have no where to park it? I'll figure that out in the morning, or at least when they tell me to get the thing off their lot.

      Thanks for your condolences.
I figure that I could still come out ahead, even if I decide to part the thing out. Once I get it home I'll be able make the decision as to whether it'll be a builder or a parter.
I do have a possable line on an s14 that might be 'interesting' in a stripped-down e21 though.

No pics yet, I had to work today (and tomorrow). I'm gonna have it trailered home. I have Monday off, so I hope that I can do it then. We'll see what happens when that goes down. Even if I decide to keep it, the engine and tranny will probably go up for sale (like a previous poster said, an 02 needs it more than this car) since I have half a mind to do some weird things with it. I'm thinking s14 or m42 and a weight-loss plan. Or maybe it will turn into my winter beater. Or it'll get sold by the pound.
Regardless of what all the haters say, I actually like e21's. They have just that right mix of ugly, distinctive, and teutonic. They won't ever replace the e30 as my favorite though.

The only haters in this thread are hating on your driving which you blame on the damn car, not E21s.
