    Thermostat delete mod

yeah.... so i was driving along today and realized my temp gauge steadily climbing and well on its way to the red, and i said to myself: "self, this is not good."

So anyway i deduced that my thermostat was going bad, because my temp gauge has been doing funny things lately, but has never went this high until now.

So being piss-ass broke, i pulled in to my driveway and just took out the thermostat, bolted everything back together, and figured that would be good enough.

So now the temp gauge fluctuates from the quarter point to the half point as i drive. Quarter when i am on the freeway and half point in traffic.

My question is this: Is this actually bad for the ol' M42? or will the motor make more power since it is running cooler? (cooler intake air etc)

All you will get is bad gas mileage, Thermostats are cheap.

can be bad because the computer will read the temp and pump in more fuel.

thermos are cheap, youre talking 20 bucks

Well, its not the WORST ever, but it would be better to have a thermostat. But its not horrible to run without one. Just make sure you don't push it when its running cold like that.

Basically, a thermostat would be best, just make sure you put one in some time.

degrees in celsius. thats when they open

you live in a colder area, i suggest the hotter temp so you have higher heat from the blower. give that the rest of the cooling system is good.

Pelican has the two temp options, seems Bavauto just has one thermostat for the M42, doesn't say what temp though, but it comes with the gasket and o-ring, and will be here much faster so that's what i will get.

Edit: ordered!! thanks for the help guys!!

an 88 keeps the temps down which is good for the M42, nice choice
