I was wondering if my M40 has the wrong thermostat too.
My temp gauge used to be at the 1/2 mark in normal driving, then after changing thermostat a year or two back, it's now steady at the 1/4 mark instead. I'm guessing a 71 or something thermostat was used instead of the correct 88 and I was thinking that's affecting me since my gas mileage isn't great.

Is a gauge @ 1/4 a sure fire sign that I'm using a wrong thermostat?

As cheap as people are on here. The cheapest crowd i've seen has to be 80's-90's fwd Turbo Dodge people. But yet their stuff would run like hell.

I suspect you need to go warmer, if the engine is running too cool, the computer will dump more gas in , thinking its in the warm up mode
