    What do you think..?

hey guys.. I have had 2 e30's before (318i and 323i) now im looking for another one..

i found this one.. not sure how many of you are from Australia.. but its really hard to find a 325i let alone a 325is.. and the couple that are for sale are around 15k.. and as for a e30 m3.. well im not even going to go there..

    Vehicle 1985 BMW 323i
    Price $11,995 (AUD)
    Kilometres 1,500
    Body 4 door Sedan
    Colour silver
    Interior Colour nay blue leather
    Transmission 5 speed Manual

    Brief Comments:
    1985 BMW 323i UPGRADED TO WORKED M-SPEC 88 MODEL 325iS MOTOR AND M3 5SPD GEARBOX

    Long Comments:
Don't be discouraged by the price but its an 85 model with a recently reconditioned 325is engine, ported polished, big cam and flat-top pistons etc. Motor was out of an 88 model and all wiring has been swapped over to suit. Also has reconditioned M3 5spd box with new clutch. New 2 and 1/2" m-bend racing exhaust. New Radiator, new hoses, the works. Only ever run on mobil1 oil. New 17" wheels and low profile tyres, new window tint, new cd player, 18" sub, splits and amp. New breaks all round. Huge sunroof, leather trim from 5series beemer. central locking and proffesionally lowered. This car is extremely quick, will do 110k/h in 2gear and it gets there fast. Must be driven to really be appreciated! V8 EATER! Will Trade!!! Will Trade!!!

.. oh and the wheels arent staying.. THANKS

Thanks for reading.. and sorry about the long first post..

what do you think.. he said that the gearbox is the same as the M3 one that came in the 325is with the engine..
      some questions..
And any ideas as to why he would put flat top pistons in there..?
And is it normal for that car to be able to do 110km/h in 2nd?
Also what is the stock redline for 325is enigne?

oh and i havent actually looked at the car or driven it.. as the car is a few hrs drive away..

      Thank you for your imput..

The redline should be 6,400 RPM.

I think that car is hideous. I dislike the color, the rims are god awful, and its 4 door. I don't know what the market is like over there but that car would only be worth about $2,000 USD here.

        RISING EDGE

Let's drive fast and have fun.

            finch-

If he built the motor up, he may have run forged pistons setup for high compression. Or, he could have told you it uses 'flat-top' pistons. You can't trust anything that someone trying to sell you a used car tells you.

As for the transmission, I wasn't aware the big 265 M3 trans fits behind the 325i gearbox, or what driveshaft you'd use with that.

As for the speed in gears, 110kph is ~68mph at 6500 in 2nd. It sounds like the car has a 3.25:1, or thereabouts, rear differential.

Nice tip choice for that 2.5" mandrel bent racing exhaust.

Somehow, I doubt the validity of most of the mods listed.

isn't that car really overpriced? I don't how much e30s are in Australia, but whether it has a m20 or not, it is a 85 4dr e30 with blue interior, and not so hot exterior color.

I think it has potential to be nice, but unless you are thinking about dropping money into the car, then I'd look for something else - but that's just me. :)

I know. I'm just saying a lot of it sounds shady.

Hey finch, I too live in AUS and have also experienced how annoying it can be to find a nice E30. While that car has some nice aspects, I'd say that overall, the previous owner has left some areas quite "shady" and personally, I'd wait and find a nicer, less-modded example.

That's not to say that there's anything 'wrong' with the car, it's just that I know when I bought my iS in AUS, I had to wait an aweful long time to find a nice (and original one with FSH) and having done so, I am very happy now. Finally, the price isn't all that far off for AUS as generally, E30's tend to be quite an amount more here than in the US.

Hope that helps and let us know what you end up deciding on,

                        Pete

Not really, the aussie dollar is a lot lower than the US dollar, so cars tend to run a lot higher, at least when you initially look at it.

$12000 AUD is approx. $9,425 USD. Like I said, I don't know the prices of E30 in australia, but almost 10,000 US is expensive for an 85 4dr with m20, dont u think?

Well maybe its not expensive in Austalia, but if there aren't plans to mod the shit out of the car, I would stay away. Again, that's just me.

Your right, it does seem expensive when you look at it that way but in the end, we just can't compare our cars like that because different countries put different values on cars and generally, the value of one car is generally higher in AUS to begin with (due to demand, high taxes to begin with, etc.)

In the end, that price is only a little more than to be expected. Sure, a lot of those mods are a bit 'shady' but generally speaking, a stock E30 323i in AUS can range from AUS$4,000 for a really beaten example to around the AUS$11-12,000 for either a prestine, low km car or (more often than not) a modded example like this one.
