I have several cars with manual trans, I just don't want to deal with it in 2mph rush hour traffic. The only 'gina I have is a mangina and it's plenty tight. ;)
i dont want to hear about your little mix up down there. my wife has a e39 540 sport auto. its not a great car but its been ok for a few years now. i built my mom an e34 540 auto and the tranny went out and cost me 2500 for a rebuilt. so far so good but id never buy another auto

If I go with any 5 series it will be a certified used from the stealer. I'd rather pay more up front for a car with some sort of warranty. I have no problems with DIY, if I did my e30 would have gone to the scrapper long ago, lol.

I know the autos are less that perfect as far as performance goes, but this if for commuting, not "spirited driving".

my 91 525i got about 21-22 mpg if i wasn't driving like an idiot. what year e34 are you thinking about. The M50 is a reliable engine and never gave me any problems what so ever.

My 93 e34 touring is at 241,000. Very nice ride and seems to be reliable, but we will just see for how long. I have not even had it for a week but I went from LA to Gilroy (garlic town) which is around 300 miles in ONLY HALF A TANK! Damn great car I say.

no specific year, though I don't want anything too old. This is not going to be another toy, but a nice reliable commuter with some style. If I get into another "I just need to fix ..." my wife will divorce me, lol.

one of the STRONGEST engine EVER buildt by BMW

pistons .. block ,, everything has more mass then vanos,,

+ you are not having trouble fixing the vanos ,,

                    bullitproff engine

easy 500 bhp on oem involse,, if you want to blow air..

amazing numbers have been shown on a stock non vanos M50B25 worldwide,,

your car is NOT going to be faster with vanos,, but better fuel economy is common

Its a great motor. I have never had any problems with it ethier even with 180k on it. The car does have brand new suspension though.

Have one in my E34, and it is strong. Pulls awesome and feels better than the M52s I've driven in a few 3 series.

OP get an E34, way cooler than an E39 and a lot more modern than an E28.

I've had my e39 touring for 2 years now. Luckily I picked it up on the cheap. Unluckily, it has cost me an unacceptable amount in upkeep.

Every day I wake up we drink a lot of coffee and watch the CNN
Every day I wake up to a bowl of clover honey and let the locusts fly in.
                                Lobsterbacks attack the town again
Wrap all my things in aluminum
Beams of darkness streak across the sky
Pink rays from the ancient satellite
Every time I look out my window same three dogs looking back at me.
Every time I open my windows cranes fly in to terrorize me.
