You are right. But seeing your 318is reminds me that I enjoyed that car as much as, if not more than, my 3.2l car. I didnt really think about it being slow either at the time, it was just pure fun. Actually, when I was mixing my driving between the E36 M3, 318is, and 3.2 eta the only one that felt "slow" was the M3... haha. Never thought about the 318is in terms of fast or slow.

This 318is doesn't feel too slow either, I think the light flywheel and some of the engine tricks account for a lot of that, even though the power isn't too much more than stock. It's 2460# with full trim, hard to believe that's what your 3.2 car weighs! But believe me there have been moments when I wish it had the 3liter under the hood. ;) It has a mild suspension under it that I thought would do the job but the roll stiffness just isn't there so I'm changing it up soon; I figure if it can't do too much on the straightaways I need all the exit speed I can get! :D

because they have classic boxy lines with decent handling when the suspension bits are freshened up and tires are grippy

I'll be honest, my chipped/injector'd/blown head gasket B25 4 door feels quick to me when it's cold out, the windows are down and the car is empty.

I always know in the back of my head that it's not, but nobody really expects the little shitbox to be the screamer that it is and I've put a surprised look on a few faces.

Because I wanted an E28, but when dad sold his, I bought the best BMW I could get at the time.

It's got big bars with strut mounted front links, but it's still not enough. :)

Meh, my 3.2 car is probably hovering right around ~2,500# now with the addition of the passenger seat. Weight will go up soon though-- it's getting a ZF (cant find any decent 260's around here..), 5-lug, and a bigger radiator w/ separate reservoir. I'll be up to normal weight :(.

Are you doing any track days in the 318is, or keeping that one away from the races? I'm just buttoning the black car up now so that it will be ready for a few events in the fall and didnt know if you were going to be out or not.
