I'm assuming the cops came? Please tell me she said the picture bit in the report.... Even if she didn't and is already telling people it was her fault, it shouldn't be a big hassle for you. Just wait and see what happens I guess? I've had a few minor fender benders that were other people's fault that got worked out, but nothing like this.

Whatever you do don't let her insurance push you around. They've been trying to do that to me for the past few weeks, and it sucks. Just fight the good fight, no matter what, and make sure you get what the car is worth.

Seriously, if they try to low ball you, you don't need to take their check. Look for comparable cars to raise price, do whatever you can to not get screwed.

If they total it and give you a decent check, buy it back and part it out then?

Probably. Try to be there when they inspect it and give them a list of mods that you have on it, that might help. Receipts also help. Here's a little info I got after my car got hit:

                    Bob,
I actually didn't have to send them any adds. What insurance company does the other driver have? I had to deal with progressive.. and they were awesome. The inspector came out and i read him the list of modifications (suspension, wheels, new paint, new head unit and speakers, new glass all around) and then spoke about the motor work and he ended up classifying the car as totally restored and in very good condition prior to the accident. the only thing he took money off for was the fact that my driver's seat was torn.

fight for every detail you've done. -i didn't even have to prove most of it. i didn't lie, but he didn't ask for receipts.

a friend of mine from Minnesota (an insurance adjuster) sent me this after my accident..
..."The value of the car is completely negotiable. KBB is just a baseline. To be honest, we completely ignore it. My company looks at NADA values, and then compare them actual vehicles for sale. Receipts are good, especially with a drivetrain swap. How much do you have into the car?
What are you looking to get? Start looking around for similar cars that are for sale so the insurance company will be able to justify the value. Insurance companies don't care what they have to pay, but to deviate from what they determine the value to be, they simply need to be able to document their reasoning."

if you can't find receipts from the swap... go on BAV or pelican (ect) to find stuff like the radiator, wires, distributor and show the guy the price of all those... that may help

I hope this helps man. It sucks to loose a car, but it REALLY sucks to loose one with as much time, money, effort and love as ours had.
Some pretty good info I got from a forum member.

I don't have personal experience, so take it for what it is. A co-worker from a past job had something similar happen. Wasn't his fault, ended up totaling his ride. The adjuster just looked at like, craigslist or somethin, I dunno, to figure out what the local going rate was, then adjusted from there. Said co-worker produced receipts for like a full tank of gas, brand new tires, rebuilt motor, and some other stuff and every little bit upped his return. Who knows what they do on the west coast though. I say best of luck with whatever happens.

No, clean er up and hope for the best. The adjuster might not try to beat you around the bush if he sees a near perfect (or damn good) condition, 20 year old car, that's clean and well taken care of.
