That's weird, I could have sworn my eta curved Tail of the Dragon at 5k.

There's a lot of misconception on what E is.

    1. Cam in E is more aggressive than I

    2. E compression is higher 9.0 to 8.8
    3. Piston design creates better vacuum pulling air in.
    4. 120hp is at 4200rpm, but eta's happily rev above 4900 unchipped.

E's are incredibly fun not to mention E's can be had for under a grand anyday. They are also very responsive to the smallest of upgrades, which makes it that much more fun to learn on. My first e30 was an 88 iS, since I've owned quite a few eS's, and even bought an iS for my girlfriend and kept my E.

The e cam has higher peak lift, but less duration (similar area under exhaust profile, definitely less area under intake profile) more advance and less of an overlap. I'm far from the camshaft analysis expert, but the i cam appears more aggressive overall to me. Regardless, you are still working with 4 cam bearings and single valve springs, not to mention longer, narrower intake runners, narrower intake path and a single exhaust. They are clearly geared towards low-end, which is great for daily driving, but not so fun to beat the piss out of. :p

Great, all this talk has made me want an eta as another beater.

If you grew up watching DTM/BTCC and dreamed of racing, get an E30.

If you grew up watching Initial D and dreamed of delivering tofu, get the Toyota.

If you want the fun of a toyota from the 80's why not just get a AW11 ( 1st gen mr2 ) same eng. 4age Blue top . Even tho I have yet to drive a gts corolla but I have driving a 86 mr2 Non SC that shit pulls but you will never be able to drift . Personly did you ever think of a 240sx? Its in your price range 2k , a stock 91+ SE would do just find, besides that go for a e30. my 2 cents

btw that e30 your looking at I wouldnt pay 2k for, maybe 900

Okay, so you can redline out at 5000. It feels like power falls off up that high though.

And for me the fun starts at 4000 rpm. Which doesn't leave much left in the eta.

It's just not a motor you can wind out, at all. And to me that makes it feel 1) slower than it is and 2) less fun.

But that's just my opinion. I've never actually driven an "i" just ridden in one. I just hate me e. That's why I tried to put an m52 in it. But I appear to have fucked that up. But I digress.

my whole point was that the I is a better all around car. Not only is it a good daily, but it will handle the track much better. It's just how BMW designed these cars.
                      Here:
ETA: older folks who want a BMW but keep it civil.
I/IS: people who want to drive their car like a bat out of hell.

I know, but I couldn't care less. 'tis the truth and everyone knows it. I've never seen an eta drive like a bat out of hell. I've seen attempts, but they all fail.

Truth. There's nothing quite like a chipped B25 singing at full 6500RPM song. Windows and sunroof down, redline, smile, repeat.
