    AC question real quick

    I dont feel like converting my car to R134 nor have the cash to. Im going to go on ebay n buy a couple cans of R12, JW how many ounces of R12 should i need?

      You will probably need like 2 and a half pounds. You gonna recharge your system yourself?

        Where can u get it? I mean I read online where they said they stop producing r12 since 1995. Wow 2 and a half pounds? Also I thought i just plug it to the low side of my AC line.

          You need a license to buy it, or know someone who can get it under the table.
          You can't just go buy it off the shelf anymore.

            Thats what i thought but he had said " You can buy R12 w/o a license, just FYI. ", and it threw me off. But I was just going to order it off of ebay. I was just wondering how many ounces would i need to get my car titty freezing cold.

              You can't buy it without a license, tehcnically you could, but it'd be under the table and you'd have to know someone.

              You can buy some shit that is some sort of combination. I forgot what the name is, like R12C or something along those lines, which is R12 combined with something else.

                  Shit, I meant can't. The places on eBay will require a license number. You should have your system checked for leaks with a vacuum too so you don't waste $200 of R12.

                    freeze12 is r134 and r12 combined IIRC . it is also much cheaper than r12 and does a decent job.

                      Definitely pressure test the system. I'd recommend a new receiver drier and a flush before charging it too.

                        If its R134 wouldnt it up my O-rings and mess up my compressor? So how many ounces officially do i need? N yeah im going to find a shop to pressure check it.

                            the o-rings will be ok there is not enought to make a big difference.
                            honestly like stated above it will be easier and better to convert to r134 in the long run. 134a is cheaper, more readily available (you can get it at walmart around the for $5-$8 a can) there is also a synthetic veraion that works a little better than regular 134a for slightly more money, if you get a reciever/drier, you are most of the way there, if you just drian the oil out of your A/C comp and fill it with PAG oil you should be fine for a while without issues (unless your comp was in bad shape already) replace the schrader fitting and go. if you go R134a only put in 1 1/2 lbs insted of the recomended 2lbs around here the lower pressure make it blow cooler and cool faster.
