    Mega Squirt question

i went IAT hunting today and grabbed a bunch of different ones...all GM

so which one am i supposed to use with MS?

    top view

the 2 on the left were outof the intake manifold

the three on the right were form the intake tract, elbow, etc the one on the far right was from the SC'ed regal that i got my 5th gen M90 from. i am going back tomarrow to get the one out of the intake mani on the regal i have the pigtails for all of them.

so which type do you run with MS?

i will eventually be running the S/C on the car so if there is a boosted preference i will go with that one.

i also picked up more coil packs for wasted spark.
    GM MAP sensor
    E36 TPS
    GM wide band 02 sensor

what GM coolant temp sendor and pigtail am i looking for?

    thanks for the help,

    Greg

The second one from the left is the more common one used. You can probably use any of them if you want to test the values. For boosted applications the open element sensor will respond quicker.

For the CLT you can also just use the stock Bosch sensor.

You don't need a MAP sensor, MS has one built in. I personally use the second one from the left. Have had no problems with it. Altho I'm fairly sure any of those will work.

the coolant sensor you want is Part # MSD-2310

      Status: HG repair. 488wtq though!

i am looking ar the P&P kit from DIYAUTOTUNE, they told me that with the ITB's i will need to make a signal box and run the line from all the ITB's (vac) into the box and connect thew sensor to that. did i miss something. IIRC it is MS2 v 3.2 or something like that.

MS has the map sensor port on the box itself. you want to take each ITB, link them all to one "box" then link that box to the MS itself. At least thats how I think its done. You shouldn't need a second sensor unless youre doing baro correction.

I can't see which one you posted, but use the one with an open element if you have one.

also, I'd suggest using the stock E30 coolant sensor.

you don't need the GM map sensor (MS has one built in) and the WB seosnory by itself won't help you because you need an controller anyway (AEM, Innovate, etc. all sell controllers with sensors for about $200).

there is actually several with the open elemeny, but only one with the open element and threads so i will go with that one.

i have an LC-1 on the way, but i this is the same o2 they use (different connector though) so it is a spare

the SC'ed Regal i pulled the charger from actually had 2 one in the air box (open element, but popped in) and one in the intake manifold (brass and screwed in) that kind of threw me for a loop that it would have an up stream and down stream sensor. my friend is going to give what ever sensor i need to use free (he is a GM tech) from his spares. it is really just a matter of finding the stuff that will work first.

at least they did not cost me anything. $5 each for 3 sets of coil packs, then i broke out with the sendors and she said "what are those?" sensors i told her "take 'em. that will be $17. 58 please"

dude, that's cheap for coils. you get the bases too? doesn't hurt to have the sensors either, even if you end up not using them.

the regal sounds like it had a pretty elaborate IAT setup, one probably measured intake air, the solid one was measuring intake manifold temp. no idea what the third one was for!

did you get the charger too? I've thought about doing something like an M90. I already have everything setup, FI just seems like a natural progression from here..

you run a vac line from each TB to a vacuum canister, and then a single vac line from the canister to MS.

the new 2.1.1 beta has much improved MAP sampling BTW. it elimnated about 95% of the noise from my engine without hurting response (in fact, i was able to decrease the lag factor all the way to 90%).

there was just the 2 sensors on the regal one for incomming air and one for mani temp.

i have bases, coils, pigtails, everything for $5 each. i am thinking about cleaning them out at that price.

i picked up the charger too, but it was missing the snout, no biggie though, it is a spare, i am going to go by the core guys shop to pick up a few more tomarrow.
i used my bargining skills and got it for $25 too.

if you want to go SC, i would suggest that you go for a 5th gen M-90. they are the latest and have a built in by pass valve for better milage under low vac or off boost. don't worry about the rotor coating, it is usually comming off and is just teflon paint. if you completely remove it it will make no difference and not effect your clearences.

on my set up i am going to blow throught the dbilas insted of a single TB and run a water to air intercooler. i am using a 4 cyl mustang crank pulley too.

$5 is a great price, my coils were NOS for about $50 with bases and wires. Still beats $80+ for a cap and rotor!
