    On some real

All i want to do is build cars. Should i really be going for Mechanical engineering? i am a junior in the ME program at "the Prestigious" University of New Haven and im so tired of this bull shit. Im going to a "great" private school but i feel like i can go to a state school for half the price and get the same education and "paperwork" in the end. I hate school. I love my roomates, i love the girls but i HATE school. I love cars more... If i only had the money......

    FML...

Whatever you do, don't just skip class and fail out. Either transfer to a different school/switch your major or see it through, just skipping class isn't going to help at all.

You'll just end up with a ton more debt and it will take longer.

I know too many people who decided to skip class rather than just tough it out and now they're on the 5,6 or even 7 year plan just to get their bachelors in something they still hate.

Dont do it, cars are great hobbies especially if you have a good job, which means going to a good school. There is a reason why 2x state school, I wont argue its bs but where you go to school does matter, maybe you dont think so right now but in 5,10, 15 years it will. Hang in there.

              This^^

I went to school, got my papers, got my inspection license, emissions and all that other good stuff. I worked in a garage for 5 years and that was it.
To me its just a hobby and when I worked in a garage it wasnt fun to come home and work on my own car. To be honest the pay isnt all that great.
Maybe for you it is different. Namsayin?? :)

Stay there man, you wont' regret having that degree. I am a senior at a state school in CA in ME. My ultimate goal is to have my own business building cars, but to get there, I will have to earn some money being an engineer. And the knowledge you gain as an engineer can really help you out in this field!

Well, if you just hate going there, you could always try a state school. I love ME here, there is no other major I could've picked:) I live in a fraternity house, there is a party almost every day, but also taking 30 units (12 classes), which is a lot, but I love it.
I understand that you hate being there, that sucks. Do do something that you don't find joy in...

So Live, you could probably benefit from a change in schools, if you're paying THAT much to get a engineering degree from a decent-to-good engineering school. At Texas A&M, I paid ~$7,800 tuition and fees each semester as out-of-state, but it's better than shelling out 2-3 times as much for little to no benefit (in my opinion).

Namsayin, EE is something I couldn't fit in, and you'll be in a good position when you get out to enter an automotive field. Every day, there seems to be more of a demand for EE's than before in the automotive field.

Both of you need to find and join an SAE chapter. If I didn't come to A&M, I probably wouldn't be so car-obsessed. FSAE/Formula Hybrid team at A&M builds awesome cars, they are building a $2009 Challenge car, got a great car club, hell even have professors and staff with Vipers, PCA club racers, building Late-Models, and Land Speed Record bikes.

Find an automotive program though the university, or start one if there isn't one. It'll show you what you can look forward to if you really try. It's great motivation for school, which generally sucks all around.

you know, i ask myself that very question every day. im ME with Nuclear junk at VCU. Although im only taking 17 credits, i have 2 quizes every week in classes that i have to teach to myself cuz the professors suck, 11-16 pages of physics homework that takes 2+ hours to copy (more time to try to understand), 3+ pages of statics, material science, and intro to nuclear. and im only a sophomore, so next year is supposed to be worse. all i want to do is start a super car company and have a job that i like, but for now i dont even have time to watch a movie. this really does suck...

I work at a sub shop and there's a dude who's 35 that just started delivering. He went to mechanic school and was in the field for 15 years and just sold all his tools and said he doesn't wanna touch a car for years lol. I've thought about the same thing you are but i'm going to just keep cars as a hobby. GL
