In my old stereo days we would use speakerbox carpet and mold it over the factory carpet, this was usually in low cost VW's and older BMW's. The results can look better then factory but wear is an issue.

Also SEM makes spray that matches the stock colors very well, about 15.00 a can though.

Yes, I just did the conversion from 21 year old nasty cardinal red moldy carpet to brand spanking new anthracite (drak gray) carpet and all recovered black leather seats.

I had no idea how big of an impact new front and rear carpet would have on the car, not to mention it doesn't smell nasty any more.

According to realoem, there is no black carpet, and anthracite is what you would get for black.

Oh, and those prices are great, I would suggest getting them ASAP before BMW decides to raise the prices again.

Just dye it the right like I did, it's the same amount of work. I used americolor black dye and their dye set penetrant, tweaked the mix to be a touch darker than they said and it came out perfect. Steps involved:

1.) Order stuff from americolor
2.) Remove Carpet
3.) Clean Carpet with a carpet cleaner
4.) Vacuum til dry if you are too impatient like me
5.) Use penetrant as instructions say
6.) Use dye mix, a little darker than they say for a nice deep color
7.) Let it dry, if it's not 100% dry it could come out funky
8.) Vacuum out the extra dye
9.) Reinstall
10.) Smile

Looks baller. The lady I got on the phone said car detail shops use the dye so it was a no brainer. I used a gravity fed paint gun to spray it and a push broom to really work the dye in between coats, and vacuumed out any extra dye afterward, but I'm sure any method would work as long as you distribute the things evenly. If it's not looking 100% even don't fret, after a few coats (I did 5 I think for good measure) there won't be any darker spots or imperfections.

junker, what did you do for the rear carpet? the anthracite front looks weird with the grey rear - i am pretty sure there is no anthracite rear.... i was planning on dumping that problem on the upholstery shop..

I used duplicolor vinyl stuff whatever it's called on the rear parcel shelf to achieve a nice rich black. Did that before I tackled the carpet and it came out alright but if you rub it the dye kinda wears off.

I looked up the anthracite carpet part numbers posted above and it looks like the front section is the same part number for coupes and sedans, but the rear section is a different part number that is NLA for sedans.

Do you, or anyone else know if the rear carpet section is interchangeable between coupes and sedans?
