they are redone in plastic/vinyl-- not leather.-- so quality????? not to sure about that

to ship a set of sport seats from germany to the U.S. isnt really very hard-- about a 20 min. project to remove the 4 bolts and box em up.-- and they are even small enough to go through the USPS.-- and boxes arent that hard to find.

I'm not bagging on your "buddy" blunt, but it does seem a bit steep for "plastic" covered 20+y/o seats

hes not my buddy. ive never met the guy. i just know hes well respected and honest and works hard to serve the BMW community. you really think guys like him are getting rich??
i know he uses good quality vinyl on all the recaros e21 seats ive seen. im not hanging from his nuts., its just that most of these guys have no idea what it costs to do business. aardvark has overhead just like any other small business

2 research and find a guy who will upholster them with quality materials and nice seams
3 pick them up and drag them back to your shop
4 list them on ebay and pay all their ridiculous listing, final sales fees and paypal fees
5 go get packing material and box them up and arrange shipping
6 take the risk that fedex or whoever will fuck your shit up and refuse your claim
7 take a trip to Tahiti on your massive profits off your sport seats.
sometimes i wish vendors would quit selling e30 parts and tell all you broke ass baggypants to go fuck yourselves

My brother is in the auto upholstery business and when it comes to e30 owners, we seem to be the biggest cheapskates all around. Understandable with a 20 y/o car but c'mmon, most of these kids on R3V would rather pay an arm and leg for new CARBEOU, SPARCO or a lot of other aftermarket crap that in my opinion can be very uncomfortable, when not tracking or autoXing your car every weekend.

They're not "plastic" but they are synthetic leather that is almost as expensive as leather itself.

They are a nice option as they don't crack, fade and dry out like leather does and require less upkeep.

I would recommend the synthetic leather for Cabrio owners as this material will stand up to the elements better than leather does.

I've seen those same style of seats in similar condition in synthetic leather with seat heaters and new foam for around $600.00 which is a fair price.

Thereisnoyun does complete auto upholstery and lives right down the street from me. We're going to be redoing a set of sport seats that I have from my parts car. Using top quality vinyl that will last longer and doesn't crack and stands up to the elements better, all the while having the same look and feel of leather isn't cheap, try $20-30 per yard and at 4-5 yards per seat it adds up. His normal charge is about 250-300 a seat. These seem to be completely rebuilt and with the amount of work that went into them 1k shipped isn't that bad.

$1,000 shipped for fully functioning mint seats is not horrible... especially if you don't want to reupholster the seats yourself.

If you are going to take on restoring sport seats the material alone will set you back around $500. Refreshing and reupholstering the seats will set you back real time and more money.

That said, $1,000 bucks for seats is crazy unless your drive train is minty fresh.

not a bad price shipped for those.

i recovered my entire interior, the materials cost me around 900, real leather seating surfaces with leatherette sides.

it took 3 days to tear down and recover front and rear seats. it is not and easy project by any means.

I had a seat reupholstered for my truck-- it was supposed to be leather- came back in VINYL--"plastic"/FAKE leather-- it is about half the price and sux.
the material stretches and doesnt return back to its shape-- and IS and LOOKS cheap-- like most things fake.
I will rub a little bit of oil a few times a yerar into my seats on all 3 of my cars with leather any day.

the seats do look like they are done really nicely though!

$1k is reasonable, they are hot rod black.

I like how well done the stiching is. Hard to tell from original factory. That's my beef with most refinished seats is the stiching as a little sloppy and the fit isn't nice and tight like original factory.

You wouldn't put these in a ratted E30, but for a nice E30 it's a worthy investment, IMO.

I may have missed it, but do all the seat shocks get replaced, or at least work?

He said all functions work. I don't like the headrest stitching though. I know its a really hard thing to get right but everything else looks perfect except for those.

Agreed, though finding stock headrests would be easy. they last forever.
