    Keys

So about a week and a half ago I moved to daytona beach to go to school and had to leave my e30 behind in Illinois, so i left my brother the key to use it. He called me up and told me the key broke in the door and asked me what he should do. I only had one key because home depot couldnt make one for the car. I told him he had to go to the local bmw dealer and they will rape him. He went there and got 2 keys and they charged.... $130. And now he wants me to pay him back. WTF.

Why the fuck would he pay for the extra key? Did he ask for it? No. I wouldn't want to be a huge dick about it since it's obviously dealing with family but your dumbass brother breaks your key off IN your door lock, then goes and gets TWO keys made because he's assuming it's on your dime.

Fuck that, if you care about your car as much as I do it would be on him, the keys are yours (I wouldn't let others have copies of my keys) and your brother isn't allowed near your car. Moderate the douchery to your application but if that's what I came home with I'd tell him to fuck off, and that he could destroy the extra key if he wanted but he wasn't going to get it and I certainly wasn't paying for it.

          $130?

When I had the ETA I went to the dealership with my registration and they ordered me a laser cut key for $24.

Well i didnt want to go into to much deal but a couple years ago my grandpa bought us a jeep to share when we first got our licences, he never had a job so he kept driving the jeep and i bought fun cars for me to drive (sharing wansnt really my thing) So i ended up taking the jeep down here (space thing, i needed to fill an unfurnished appartment with my crap.) So he got to use my car. Witch i miss like cazy already lol.

You should have him talk to that dealership cuz in no way was that kosher. The parts or key guy probably just jacked the extra 80 bucks. I bet if you were to talk to a supervisor that would land this employee in deep shit. I got two factory cut keys from my BMW dealership for about 40 bucks.... nough said...

Really? When? I got charged 6.50 for a lug bolt, I don't doubt for a second that they'd charge $65 apiece for keys. If it's only 40 bucks for an extra pair, I'll go down tomorrow.

So despite the fact that he's had the jeep all to himself because YOU got off your ass and got a job... eh whatever. He wouldn't get a dime if it were me. But look into whether or not he overpaid for sure.

You guys are gonna shit in your pants after this, I go to a local mobile locksmith that comes by the neighborhood market and I get the extra BMW keys made for $2.00 bucks a piece or 3 for $5.00 bucks. I think the demand is really low, hence the really low price.

Its your responsibility as the OWNER to have more than 1 key for your car. Any ACE hardware can copy these keys for less than $10/each. Home Depot is useless.

I don't know exactly what you mean but the keys say BMW on them, it's not like your pretty STEALERSHIP key with the black plastic on the top part.

First of all I don't know where on earth y'all are getting your asses handed to you. I have about 6 copies of my keys all over the place (mostly cuz I forget where I put them), but I've gotten them all made at either Ace or Home Depot for 2 bux each. sure they aren't the fancy BMW plastic top keys but why should I care I can start my car!! oh and the one time I did need to get a new key, the dealer only charged me about 20bux.
