help!!! brake caliper snapped off after dust plate caught and mangled

    pic here wtf
    yuck,
so I'm driving along and the car stops and jerks with a whining sound. everything appeared fine. but the passenger side rotor/brake/wheel locked up.
jacked up car and saw this^^^
basically the brake line was snapped the dust cover mangled.
the brake caliper was on the other side of the rotor!
the 2 bolts snapped on the caliper.
the caliper is still one piece. the rotor is fine.
I was able to snap off the dust plate and drove to my friends house.
So I'm thinking the dust plate caught onto the wheel or something and turned ripping up the caliper.
Or the brake siezed up and caught onto the rotor and shot forward.
So any advice on what to fix?
this ever happen to any of you guys?

I'm thinking I just need to replace the brake line and it will be good minus the dust plate which does not seem to necessary.

So you're saying you split a brake line and still drove? That's the stupidest thing I've heard in a while. Also, the space bar does not say "Enter".

Have you made a purchase from www.blunttech.com recently?

lol this thread has potential.. I dunno what to offer, looks rough. I'd go in and replace / redo / rebuild a bunch of the brake system.... New fluid, rebuild the calipers, lines, etc? I dunno

4Yeah, I will be able to look at it better tomorrow, plus get better pics.
Could it possibly be a bad caliper? It seems the dust cover was at fault, being that it was trashed.
The best way I can explain the caliper/rotor is comparing it to a clock.
The caliper usually sits in the 10/11 spot and ended up in the 1/2 spot with both retaining bolts snapping.
What the hell would cause this?
Oh yeah the Wheel hub/bearing cap came off too, inside the wheel.

                        lol
so......you do your own on this car? Did you recently do anything in that area and forget to tighten or over torque any bolts? Now you saying the hub came off too?

It seems odd that the dust shield would just happen to catch the wheel and rip the whole caliper off the assembly. I have never seen this before and would like to this there is a clear reason why it happened. Certainly this isn't a common occurrence and most likely something was put together incorrectly.

As far as fixing it goes, yeah your gonna want to replace any broken/strained parts on that wheel, then all the brake parts on the other wheels. depending on why this happened you might be better off just replacing all four corners with new brake lines, caliper rebuilds and wheel bearings.

both caliper bolts fell off taking the backing shield. not the other way around.

This is why some locktite is good on the caliper bolts, and torquing them to spec.
