just got pulled over for retarded reason

i was driving in the left lane on highway 16 wich is a two lane highway and there was a cop on the right side of the road. He pulled out and got behind me blah bla and pulled me over. His reason?? apparently its illeagal in washington to drive in the left lane, its for passing and emergency vehicles only. i didnt get a ticket or anything and im not ranting i just think thats stupid. i have driven in the left lane for 4 years on the same highway and passed hundreds of cops. i was under the impression that it was the lane your suposed to be in if your not exiting. anyone ever herd of this?

It is written on the side of the highways on huge signs, all over North America, and even the rest of the world. Everyone knows (except you, I guess), that left lane is only for passing.

Depending on the state it's "Keep right except to pass" or "slower traffic keep right". The left lane is never to be driven in unless you are overtaking a vehicle, period. It's simple, you pass and you merge into the right lane...it's a really simple concept.

Why would he bother pulling you over if you are driving in the left lane while there was people in the right lane? As your original posts says, he stated the left lane is for "passing and emergency vehicles only". You first and next to last post don't add up.
