    Car Leaking Coolant

    Hey everyone,
Well when I was on my way to the hardware store today a notice that once the car was off and stopped a large amount of coolant was coming out. It was from right around the drivers side front wheel. Any suggestions of what it could be?

probably a hose, i had the same problem shortly after getting my car, took awhile to track it down but it was the hose in the end, had a gash in it where I assume the fan had hit it.

Sounds like coolant is coming from your reservoir overflow hose. See if there is a leak coming from the radiator or any of the hoses to the rad fom the motor or from the radiator. If not, it could be water boiling in your system and leaking out the overflow hose landing right by your wheel. This would happen due to a bad radiator cap. Check hoses for any leaks. If not any, replace your cap. Its about 15-20 bucks and easy to install :).

Why do people think that just because I'm 19 I don't open the hood. I have taken apart motors, replaced plenty of parts. I just finished fabricating brackets for my sparco sprint v. Of course I pop the hood.

Then why are you asking such a simple question and not giving a discription of the area it is leaking from.

When I stopped the car and got out it was quite literally gushing coolant. Ironically enough I let the car idle for five minutes or so this morning while vigorously looking over the whole car for the leak with no avail. I will go run a few errands and check, I have a feeling if it didn't get warm enough to open the t-stat i might have come closer to isolating the problem. I also discovered my alternator is loose which adds one more to do. Also, what needs to be done in preparation for cleaning the engine bay? Is it the normal cover dist, fuse, all electrical parts essentially?

Where was coolant gushing from? If it wasnt leaking when still warming up, it could be the rad cap man. Just replace it for fun. And as far as cleaning the bay, cover the fuse box, alternator, and air box. Purple powa that puppy.

Oddly enough today I could not get it to leak, The radiator doesn't have a cap on it. You mean the coolant reservoir? I changed the differential fluid today with castrol syntec of the correct weight. Made a HUGE difference as far as I can tell with how the car accelerates and how smooth the power is put down. Now I just need new differential mounts/bushings. Any suggestions?
