    differential limited slip?

was looking on realoem and it said that my 84 318i autohas a limited slip diff. i dont think it does, other than the metal tag which is no longer there, is there any way by looking that you tell if it is limited slip or not?

jack the rear of the car up, turn one of the wheels. if the wheels turn opposite directions, it is an open diff.

LSD spins in the same direction on both ends. Lift the rear of the car up and spin the tire.

            Nope.

LSD will spin the same direction. If the wheels aren't locked together, spinning in the same direction, then it's not an LSD.

only if it was a quaif unit or a torson unit. they dont have clutches inside them to lock them up. they only lock up under power.

the quaif is bout $700 i last checked. thats just for the diff. they dont make torson units for e30's.

                  l.s.d

my rally bm has a standard 325 lsd and both wheels spin in the same direction this has been the same on the 5 i had before this one
don't know if you have them over there in the states but here you can get atlas plates to replace the standard bm ones
as in the atlas axle used in many rally cars

If your driving fast and you turn real hard and gun it to the left, open should spin the left wheel.
