Stiffer trunk spring for those running spoilers?

Since adding the M-tec II factory spoiler, my trunk will not pop open when the button is pressed. Since I'm getting a new alarm shortly with a trunk release feature, in order for it to work, I'll need to add a stiffer trunk sprint system.

Anyone ever rig this up? Suggestions?

you could weld in a 3rd position for the spring that is already present

Mine does this too. Sounds interesting with the trunk release, let us know how that goes if you figure something out.

I had no idea about the trunk slots. I just checked and saw exactly what you are talking about.

I assumed since my car was an IS and had a factory spoiler, my slot was in the stiffer position (the one closest towards the front of the car. However, I moved the slots to position number 2 (the slot closest to the rear of the car).

            The result:

No real change. At the fully open position, the trunk is definetly more stable, but the trunk still needs lots of help to open on it's own.

I'd assume the E30 M3 wing is about as heavy as my M-tec wing. I'd also assume E30 M3's trunks opened properly. Therefore the next step is to look into E30 M3 trunk springs I guess.

FYI, the mtechII wing weights about 2x what the m3 wing weighs, i have both, i've been wondering too what to do about the same problem, its annoying.

i've got mine to the second slot and it helps slightly with a stock spoiler. An M Tech 2 would definitely need more help

I agree. Just custom fab some mounts and put in two gas struts. They should be plenty to lift the lid.

Oh dear god, he made a post that might be construed as useful. That would explain why my basement floor is freezing.

Keep it up and you might just get :nice: :

How exactly hard is it to open? I mean when mine pops it hovers about 3-4 inches then you just need a finger to get it going up and it then goes on its own. It kinda bounces when it hits the top.
                        Im now E30less.
