He has it on both sides and it's your stock hood shock.

cool idea, and that helps get rid of the trunk rattle with subs.

        Badass...
I will probably do this to my E28 since it doesn't even lift itself at all!! spring is in the second position, but with the large optional tool kit (full), a trunk lid cover and an iS spoiler it just doesn't move. It holds itself up at the top position, but barely. If you knock it, it just falls down and closes...

I did this mod today with two used e30 hood shocks. Unfortunately with both shocks installed, the trunk actually had a harder time opening then it did even with the stock spring on level 1.

With the two hood shocks, the trunk only barley held its self open at the top. Barley.

I tried to reinstall the stock springs AND use the hood shocks but it was a disaster...it would not work and one of the hood shocks exploded.

I'm still going to make this work.

          Should I:

          A. Order two new e30 hood shocks. Two new E30 hood shocks should hold up the trunk even with the M-tec spoiler

          B. Order two new e34 hood shocks. These hood shocks are the same length as the e30 hood shocks. Perhaps they are stronger since the e34 has a bigger hood. Or are they possibly weaker because the e34 uses two hood shocks while the E30 only uses one?

          C. Order two e34 rear trunk shocks. These are about twice the length of the e30 shocks but are noticeably thicker. I bet these would do the job, BUT I don't see how I could mount them as the E30 shocks are almost too long as is.

          Thoughts/suggestions?

I bet the are a whole bunch stiffer. I helped install a hood shock from Pep Boys on a Jeep and it took 2 of us to compress it enough to fit.

My trunk uses the long pieces of metal to hold the trunk up.

My trunk diesn't open on it's own, I have to push it all the way up, but it stays up nice and strong.

I'd like it to open a bit more possibly, and I like the shock idea.

However - how the HELL do you get the pieces of metal out without killing yourself? I've noticed, even when I move the piece of metal on the IS - it still has more resistance then on my Super Eta, which nevert had a spoiler until now. So, it seems the only way to get the same resistance would be to swap the pieces of metal.

The things have so much pressure on them tho, lol.

i took my 20 lb rubber peice of crap sploiler off and now my trunk flys open, i have to hold it down when i pop it or the damn thing will hit me in the face if im not apying attention. i don't let anyone else open it, cause they don't think it will fly open like that, and im scared it will fly up and baned something one of these times. but when the spioler was on, it opened like normal.
