You buy them. They are about $300 a pair new, slightly less for used.

You can buy them or you can do them yourself. BUT no matter how good you smoke them yourself, it will always look homemade simply due to the way the real ones look. They are made a certain way. I personally like the real ones no contest. Its not even worth it to me to smoke them yourself. Very hard to do it right and either way it looks homemade.

300 new? From where? All the prices have gone up due to the failing dollar, I believe. I remember when I got a pair for Ryan, they were 250. Ahh the old days, when our economy meant something, lol.

is it just a darker plastic that they use..? or a tint like on windows..?

This is the trick. They use actually darker plastic, but it is clear dark plastic, then they have these little "orbs" if you will inside the housing that surround your clear bulb, and that therefore makes it emit the color light required, so a great deal of the cluster just looks dark. They have a unique look to them. I find that when you smoke them, since youre smoking the actual colored plastic, it can look good, no doubt, but you can always tell that they arent made that way. Its rare around here even in SoCal where you find many E30s a day to see someone with true smoked tails due to the fact that some people dont find it worth it to spend that much on some made-for-a-15-20-year-old-car taillights. I have always wondered if there was a way to take out the amber "orb" out and make it clear, basically, that would be original, cuz the bubble thing it maybe 2/5ths bigger than the hole allowed for the bulb. WHatever, too much headhache and what if you get it wrong on some 300+ dollar rear clusters? haha. I hope I helped.
