    Laser eye surgery...2 months later.

After a scary mishap during the first attempt this summer, the second attempt in October was a success. Rather then cutting the eye lens flap, removing it, and zapping the eye, they just used the laser to vaporize the flap and then do the reshaping. Recovery time was longer, but it was a better option for me.

I was really only down for a day...not much pain at all. Vision was not really usable for a week. After a week, I could see well at a distance but could not read. By week 2, vision was good. After a month my vision was 20/50...not great but far better then it was. Now, 2 months later, my vision is 20/30. The doctor says it still is possible my vision will improve even more. Even if this does not happen I am ecstatic as 20/30 was better then I was getting with contacts.

My advice: Find the best local doctor and shell out. It is well worth it.

I can't wait to go back for the right eye...

        I'm curious aswell.

I have contacts and in a few years I'm considering getting mine done too, don't want to interupt eye growth right now though.

I was legally blind without contacts or glasses. -4.5 in both eyes. Last year I actually got 2 ulcers on my right eye from over-wearing my contacts which prompted me to jump on this.

I wouldn't say this has changed my life as I could see fine with contacts but it does make life a lot eaiser. Once the right eye is done I will never have to worry about contacts or glasses again.

I'm still sligtly concerned with long term results as this has only been around for 10 years, but so far no one has had any serious problems. It's worth the risk IMHO.

My Dad had it done before lasik, when they did RK with a scalpel. He loves it, first time in his life he was able to wake up and see in the morning.

I was always curious about the longterm effects of laser eye surgery, like if your vision can go back to being worse after going back to 20/20 or whatever. Does anyone know if this has happened before?

According to the doctors the younger you are when you have it done the less of a chance you have of your vision getting worse again. If you wait until you are past 50 then it will almost certainly get worse, just not as bad as it was to start with.

pay? laser eye surgery is free through my employer.. although I'm not anywhere near neading it. but if I was, it would have been done already. :)

you must have been pretty blind, generally after laser eye surgery vision improves above 20/20. but hey, 20/30 ain't bad compared to what you must have been before!

Per eye, what's the average cost of lasik surgery? It may be worth it to get it while I'm young.

My dad had both eyes done at the same time a couple years ago? Why not do both at the same time?

My guess would be so you could still see somewhat while the one eye was healing.

Its usually about $1500 per eye.

I have a friend in the family who does Lasik eye surgery and most people have to go back two years after the first surgery to have them reshaped. Some people have to keep going back. Most don't though.

My mom had it done and she's very happy with it. Hopefully, this year will be my third year without a change in my perscription so I can have it done. They recommend you only have it done if your perscription hasn't changed in three years.

                              Shit, that's legally blind?

I'm -6.5 in my left eye and -7.0 in my right. I was thinking about laser surgery recently, guess i'll really jump on it and find out how much and if my insurance helps any. jeez
