      Personally i'd take an m20 car 9/10 times. I found the m42 to be buzzy on the highway and didn't really suit the rest of the car, the m20 is just the sweeter option for a DD, the m42 was certainly more fun to rev out in that slow car kind of way.

          My point being m20 FTW , even the eta pwns the 318i's with having low end. The m42 isnt much stronger than the m10 i must add.

                            neither one of those cars pulls good in 5th stock with stock gearing. i was confused by your previous statements. i thought you were saying the m20b27 is better than the m42. thats what i was disagreeing with. i only brought up the b25 because it sounded like you were saying 'nothing beats eta torque'.

                              Well I was saing the m42 wont beat the eta's torque. There for at higher speeds stock vs stock the eta would pull better. Im not saing the m42 is a pos , just compairing the m42 to the m20b27. Like I said before I have never driven a a late 318i (m42)

                              Also compairing the m10 vs the eta. The m10 flet a lil quicker off the line only to 2nd gear after that its a slug vs the b27. the m42 dosnt have that big of a hp gain than the m10. if anything the m10 318 is lighter with a lower gear ratio (3.91)

                                Sina my car boosts, if you wanna give it a spin after I throw on the brakes suspension exhaust and fix the trans it's good. Work in progress right now tho.
