An exhaust question for 318is owners!

What type of exhaust are you guys running?

I've searched the forum and found that not all exhausts made for E30's have fitments for the M42 in our 318is. So I'm wondering which manufactures make bolt on systems for the 318is.

I know Supersprint does but with some of the 325ers getting I.E. exhausts for $350-$450 the Supersprint at $550 sounds a little steep.

    Thanks for the input.

You dont really need a full cat-back exhaust. Just a muffler is fine.

Agreed, if it's exhaust note you're after, then go with a muffler. I have the Supersprint cat-back and it is nicely made, but it's hard to justify the price.

On a related note, I don't want to jack your thread or anything but does anybody know where you can get the magnaflow muffler for the 318iS in Australia?

        Thanks,

        Pete

I have a supersprint cat back with 70mm oval tip... totally worth the money imo, my shop charged me 500 including installation. I've had it for two years and so far it's still like new, sounds great, looks great, and they say it's good for an extra 3hp ;)

Just FYI, I think Magnaflow only makes universal mufflers, I don't think they make any bolt on exhaust systems. Not for E30's at least.

I followed Stu's advice, Dynomax. 40 from summit (it's the 2.25 diameter offset inlet and outlet) and 35 installed with a nice tip. It just sounds bassy, and with the drilled intake it's nice. It's nothing too new to the exhaust, but it really fills out the exhaust note that was there.
The BMW 318 is back. With a vengeance.

Yeah, I've thought of just going with a muffler. I'd just have to find someone to cut off the old one and weld on the new one.

Anyone have a sound clip of a magnaflow or dynomax muffler on their 318?

Anyone know the weight of the stock muffler? I took off the whole exhaust to get to the transmission, and it seems like almost the entire weight of the exhaust is concentrated in the muffler.

Thanks for that. I may just speak to my local exhaust shop and see what they can do.

on my 318is i had a custom magnaflow 2.5 inch (i think) system from the headers back that the PO put on... he said a local muffler shop charged him like 400 for the whole thing.. it sounded pretty good, not obnoxious in traffic but burly when you're on it... might be a cheaper route to experiment with
